Satan refers to the great opposer, adversary of God and man; the personal name of the devil, meaning 'slanderer', 'the wicked one', 'false accuser', 'the great deceiver' or 'the tempter'. Many peoples may ask, Why is there evil?

The Buddhists and the Hindus have one common root in their different traditions. They believe in Karma and reincarnation: They believe that the cause of all sufferings or evil is in human desire or craving. They do not make a distinction between evil or suffering.

Buddhism teaches: Human beings are born into a world of suffering (dukkha) because of the illusory nature of things in this world. The cause of 'suffering' is 'craving' or sometimes translated as 'desire' (Tanha). Hence it is the craving after the unreal or illusory nature of things in this world that brings about dukkha, 'suffering'. The path to end suffering is to 'dig up the very roots of Tanha'. To be able to dig up the root of Tanha, craving in Man, he must be enlightened that all is transitory or illusion. It is by reason of this reproductive power of thought that the will to love makes man re-live or as its being said, 'We live eternally through our lust to live'. The Way to this enlightenment is the famous eight-fold Path: right Understanding, right Thought, right Speech, right Action, right Livelihood, right Effort, right Mindfulness and right Concentration. It is a programme of purification of thought, word and deed leading to cessation of craving. The total 'extinction' of craving is the bliss of Nibbana or Nirvana.

Hinduism teaches: Hindus believe that the world of which one is aware is illusory (maya) in the sense that it is a veil concealing the Absolute Reality (Brahman) or God who is One with everything, so much so that there is no longer any distinction between God and the whole of Nature. Man, therefore in his depth, his soul, Atman is Brahman. The unenlightened Man craves for life in its illusory form as he is aware of it, not realizing that beyond the "illusion", God is all and all is God. The root of existence, then, is craving or desire which is suffering. Hence to be released or liberated from the fatal chain of reincarnation into life, all desires must be extinguished. To achieve this, different paths are proposed, some better than others - the path of action with strict observance of rites, pilgrimages, prayers, yogas and the path of ascetiscism, etc.

Christian teaches: God created us through Love and for Love. To love, then, is the nature of being human. But love is free. I cannot force you to love me and vice versa. You must freely respond to the invitation of love before there is love between you and me or God. Evil or sin is the refusal to love for which we have been made. Evil destroys. Love creates. Hence, the whole history of salvation hinges on God's call to us to love as He loves us. "This my Commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you" says Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In summary: for Christians, suffering is neither good or evil. It is Man's reaction to suffering that is good or evil.

Some people have trouble admitting the existence of such an enemy as Satan. But his presence and activity are necessary to explain the problems of evil and suffering. The Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible makes it plain that Satan exists and that his main work is to oppose the rule of God in the affairs of man through lies and deceit.

Many wonder why God would allow Satan, this great embodiment of evil to exist in His creation. Perhaps, He allows it to show that evil and wrongdoing do not provide the key to the ultimate meaning of life which man so desperately desires.

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -

The Spirit-given ability to speak in languages not known to the speaker or in an ecstatic language that could not normally be understood by the speaker or the hearers refers to Gift of Tongues. Apparently the only possibly direct reference in the Old Testament to speaking in another language or tongue is found in Isaiah 28:11-13: 'Yes, certainly with stammering lips and in foreign language he will talk to this nation'. This seems to be a reference to an invasion of the Assyrians. They apparently would speak in another language, one probably unknown to the people of Israel.

The apostle Peter considered the phenomenon of speaking in tongues that occurred on the Day of Pentecost (Acts chapter 2) as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. - Joel 2:28-32 -

The apostle Paul puts the gift of tongues in perspective by affirming that anybody with the gift of tongues speaks to God but not to other people; because nobody understands him when he talks in the spirit about mysterious things. On the other hand, the man who prophesies does talk to other people, to their improvement, their encouragement and their consolation. To one with the gift of tongues talks for his own benefit but the man who prophesies does so for the benefit of the community. While I should like you all to have the gift of tongues, I would much rather you could prophesy since the man who prophesies is of greater importance than the man with the gift of tongues unless of course the latter offers an interpretation so that the church may get some benefit.

Now suppose, my dear brothers, I am someone with the gift of tongues and I come to visit you, what use shall I be if all my talking reveals nothing new, tells you nothing and neither inspires you nor instructs you? Think of a musical instrument, a flute or a harp: if one note on it cannot be distinguished from another, how can you tell what tune is being played? Or if no one can be sure which call the trumpet has sounded, who will be ready for the attack? It is the same with you: if your tongue does not produce intelligible speech, how can anyone know what you are saying? You will be talking to the air. There are any number of different languages in the world and not one of them is meaningless but if I am ignorant of what the sound mean, I am a savage to the man who is speaking and he is a savage to me. It is the same in your own case: since you aspire to spiritual gifts, concentrate on those which will grow to benefit the community.

That is why anybody who has the gift of tongues must pray for the power of interpreting them. For if I use this gift in my prayers, my spirit may be praying but my mind is left barren. What is the answer to that? Surely I should pray not only with the spirit but with the mind as well? And sing praises not only with the spirit but with the mind as well? Any uninitiated person will never be able to say Amen to your thanksgiving if you only bless God with the spirit, for he will have no idea what you are saying. However well you make your thanksgiving, the other gets no benefit from it. I thank God that I have a greater gift of tongues than all of you but when I am in the presence of the community I would rather say five words that mean something than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Brothers, you are not to be childish in your outlook. You can be babies as far as wickedness is concerned but mentally you must be adult. In the written Law it says: Through men speaking strange languages and through the lips of foreigners, I shall talk to the nation and still they will not listen to me, says the Lord. You see then, that the strange languages are meant to be a sign not for believers but for unbelievers while on the other hand, prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. So that any uninitiated people or unbelievers, coming into a meeting of the whole church where everybody was speaking in tongues, would say you are all mad; but if you were all prophesying and an unbeliever or uninitiated person came in, he would find himself analysed and judged by everyone speaking; he would find his secret thoughts laid bare and then fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed. - 1Cor. 14:2-25 -

Now my dear brothers, I want to clear up a wrong impression about spiritual gifts....... One may have the gift of preaching with wisdom given him by the Spirit; another may have the gift of preaching instruction given him by the same Spirit; and another the gift of faith given by the same Spirit; another again the gift of healing through this one Spirit; one, the power of miracles; another, prophecy; another the gift of recognising spirits; another the gift of tongues and another the ability to interpret them. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who distributes different gifts to different people just as he chooses............Now you together are Christ's body; but each of you is a different part of it. In the Church, God has given the first place to apostles, the second to prophets, the third to teachers; after them, miracles and after them the gift of healing; helpers, good leaders, those with many languages... Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show you a way that is better than any of them............ In short, there are three things that last: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE; and the greatest of these is LOVE. - 1Cor. 12:1-31; 13:13 -

Be transformed by the changing and renewing of your heart, mind, attitude, character inwardly or in appearance, to the values, ideals and behaviour of a fallen world. Believers should continually renew their heart and minds through prayer, pondering and reflecting of God's Word, by the power of the Holy Spirit and so be transformed and made like Christ. - 2Cor. 3:12-18 -

Transform refers to change radically in inner character, condition or nature. The apostle Paul exhorted Christians,'Do not model yourselves on the behaviour of the world around you but let your behaviour change, modelled by your new mind. This is the only way to discover the will of God and know what is good, what it is that God wants, what is the perfect thing to do. - Rom. 12:2 -

For us, our homeland is in heaven and from heaven comes the saviour we are waiting for, the Lord Jesus Christ and he will transfigure these wretched bodies of ours into copies of his glorious body. He will do that by the same power with which he can subdue the whole universe. - Phil. 3:20-21 -

Apostle Paul warned, 'Beware of false apostles, deceitful peoples, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. One should not be surprised - for Satan himself transforms himself into angel of light'.
These people are counterfeit apostles, they are dishonest workmen disguised as an angel of light, there is no need to be surprised when his servants, too, disguise themselves as the servants of righteousness. They will come to the end that they deserve. - 2Cor. 11:13-15 -

*Dr. Steven Selvaraju writes 'What is transformation?'

Many people think that 'transformation' simply means 'to change'. Yet, there is a difference. Let me illustrate this with an example; Imagine you are standing in front of the mirror and you notice that your shirt does not match the colour of your pants. So, you remove the shirt and put on one which you think is more appropiate. That is change. - Now, imagine you are standing in front of the mirror and you become aware that you are not happy with the way you usually dress. You feel the clothes you wear do not suit your personality or express who you really are. And so you decide to change the way you dress. That is transformation.*

While retribution may be used in the sense of a reward for doing good, it usually refers to punishment for doing evil and an act of receiving what one deserves. The anger of God is being revealed from heaven against all the impiety and depravity of men who keep truth imprisoned in their wickedness. For what can be known about God is perfectly plain to them since God himself has made it plain.

The principle of retribution is found often in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible; it is indicated by words such as wrath, vengeance, punishment, judgment and hell. Retribution is the judgment of a holy God upon sin. Eventually it becomes the eternal punishment of the wicked, evil doer and ungodly - unless the sinner turns in love and faith to God and sincerely repented all sins through the Sacrament of Penances and Reconciliation; in which all Sacraments are instituted by Christ Jesus, who took the punishment the sinner deserves upon Himself.

What follows? It was not Israel as a whole that found what it was seeking but only the chosen few. The rest were not allowed to see the truth; as scripture says: God has given them a sluggish spirit, unseeing eyes and inattentive ears and they still like that today. And David says: May their own table prove a trap for them, a snare and a pitfall - let that be their punishment; may their eyes be struck incurably blind, their backs bend forever. - Rom. 11:7-10 -

We ought then, to turn our minds more attentively than before to what we have been taught so that we do not drift away. If a promise that was made through angels proved to be so true that every infringement and disobedience brought its own proper punishment then, we shall certainly not go unpunished if we neglect this salvation that is promised to us. The promise was first announced by the Lord himself and is guaranteed to us by those who heard him: God himself confirmed their witness with signs and marvels and miracles of all kinds and by freely giving the gifts of the Holy Spirit. - Heb. 2:1-4 -

God will very rightly repay with injury those who are injuring you and reward you who are suffering now, with the same peace as he will give us, when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven with the angels of his power. He will come in flaming fire to impose the penalty on all who do not acknowledge God and refuse to accept the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. It will be their punishment to be lost eternally, excluded from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength on that day when he comes to be glorified among his saints and seen in his glory by all who believe in him; and you are believers through our witness.

Knowing this, we pray continually that our God will make you worthy of his call and by his power fulfill all your desires for goodness and complete all that you have been doing through faith; because in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. - 2Thess. 1:7-12 -

We give thanks to you, Almighty Lord God, He-Is-and-He-Was, for using your great power and beginning your reign. The nations were seething with rage and now the time has come for your own anger and for the dead to be judged, and for your servants the prophets, for the saints and for all who worship you, small or great, to be rewarded. The time has come to destroy those who are destroying the earth. Then the sanctuary of God in heaven opened and the ark of the covenant could be seen inside it. Then came flashes of lightning, peals of thunder and an earthquake, and violent hail. - Rev. 11:17-19 -

The Book of Deuteronomy is sometimes called the Deuteronomic Code. This book contains the command to love God's with all one's heart, soul and strength as well as a second record of the Ten Commandments (Deut. 5).

You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength. Let these words I urge on you today be written on your heart. You shall repeat them to your children and say them over to them whether at rest in your house or walking abroad, at your lying down or at your rising; you shall fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a circlet; you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. - Deut. 6:4-9 -

Scriptural/Biblical law is more than a record of human law. It is an expression of what God requires of man. It rest on the eternal moral principles that are consistent with the very nature of God Himself. Therefore, the Ten Commandments is the summary of moral law. As such it sets forth fundamental and universal moral principles.

On the Laws Regulating Other Social Behaviour and because God is holy. God commanded the Hebrew people to keep themselves from pagan religious and cultic practices. Among these practices were boiling a kid in its mother's milk, shaving one's head in a particular way, worshiping idols, sacrificing children, participating in homosexuality and temple prostitution, slashing or tattooing one's body and practicing magic, sorcery or divination. - Lev. 19:26-31, 20:2, 21:5-6, 13:33; Deut. 7:5,25, 12:2-3, 14:21 -

God's people were to preserve and always ponder the Lord's law, revere His name, be grateful and thankful, and obey, love and serve their redeemer God. - Deut. 4:2, 6:4-7, 8:6-10, 10:12-16, 11:1,13-14 -

Most of the time, we may think and contemplate 'what faith does?'
Do you mean that faith makes the Law pointless? Not at all: we are giving the Law its true value. - Rom. 3:31 -

Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved. Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven; but the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven. - Matt. 5:17-19 -

God has done what the Law because of our unspiritual nature, was unable to do. God dealt with sin by sending his own Son in a body as physical as any sinful body, and in that body, God condemned sin. He did this in order that the Law's just demands might be satisfied in us, who behave not as our unspiritual nature but as the spirit dictates. - Rom. 8:3-4 -

You see, if a man keeps the whole of the Law except for one small point at which he fails, he is still guilty of breaking it all. It was the same person who said, 'You must not commit adultery' and 'You must not kill'. Now if you commit murder, you do not have to commit adultery as well to become a breaker of the Law. Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom because there will be judgment without mercy for those who have not been merciful themselves; but the merciful need have no fear of judgment. - James 2:11-13 -

Brothers, I have the very warmest love.......But now the Law has come to an end with Christ and everyone who has faith may be justified. When Moses refers to being justified by the Law, he writes: those whose keep the Law will draw life from it. But the righteous that comes from faith says this: Do not tell yourself you have to bring Christ down - as in the text: Who will go up to heaven? or that you have to bring Christ back from the dead - as in the text: Who will go down to the underworld? On the positive side it says: The word, that is the faith that we proclaim is very near to you, it is on your lips and in your heart. If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. By believing from the heart you are made righteous: by confessing with your lips you are saved. When scripture says: those who believe in him will have no cause for shame, it makes no distinction between Jew and Greek: all belong to the same Lord who is rich enough, however many ask for his help, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. - Rom. 10:1-13 -

In the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible, particularly the Old Testament, a unique law code was established by direct revelation from God to direct His people in their worship, in their relationship to Him and in their social relationship with one another. Law refers to an orderly system if rules and regulations by which society is governed.

Israel was not the only nation to have a law code. Such collections were common among the countries of the ancient world. The Mosaic Law or the biblical law code was different, first of all, in its origin. Throughout the ancient world, the laws of most nations were believed to originate with the gods but they were considered intensely personal and subjective in the way they were applied. Even the gods were under the law and they could suffer punishment if they violated it - unless, of course, they were powerful and able to conquer the punishers. The king ruled under the god whose temple and property he oversaw. Although he did not live under a written law code, he had a personal relationship to the god. Therefore, law was decided ultimately case by case and at the king's discretion. For most of a king's lifetime, his laws were kept secret.

By contrast, the Mosaic Law or the biblical concept was that Law comes from God, issues from His nature, and is holy, righteous and good. Furthermore, at the outset of God's ruling over Israel at Sinai, God the great King gave His laws. These laws were binding on His people and He upheld them. Moreover, His laws were universal. Ancient orient kings often tried to outdo their predecessors in image, economic power, and political influence. This was often their motivation in setting forth law codes. God, however, depicts His law as an expression of His love for His people.

You, yourselves have seen what I did with the Egyptians, how I carried you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself. From this you know that now if you obey my voice and hold fast to my covenant, you of all the nations shall be my very own for all the earth is mine. I will count you a kingdom of priests, a consecrated nation. - Ex. 19:4-6 -

The "eye for eye" and "tooth for tooth" requirement of the Mosaic Law was not harsh statement that required cruel punishment. Instead, it was a mandate for equality before the law. Each criminal had to pay for his own crime. Under the law codes of some pagan nations, the rich often could buy their way out of punishment. God's law especially protected the defenseless and stranger from injustice. - Num. 35:31; Ex. 21:20-24 -

The Book of Leviticus in chapter 17 to 26 or as it is refers to "holiness code". Although it does not contain all of God's directions for ceremonial holiness, it does set forth much of what God requires. These chapters contain moral and ritual specifications regarding the tabernacle and public worship as well as the command to love one's neighbour as oneself.

You must not slander your own people and you must not jeopardize your neighbour's life. I am Yahweh. You must not bear hatred for your brother in your heart. You must openly tell him, your neighbour of his offence; this way you will not take a sin upon yourself. You must not exact vengeance nor must you bear a grudge against the children of your people. You must love your neighbour as yourself. I am Yahweh. - Lev. 19:16-18 -

In the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible, the word 'Hope' stands for both the act of hoping and the thing hoped for. Abraham's faith, is a model of Christian faith, hope and love in God.

Though it seemed Abraham's hope could not be fulfilled, he hoped and he believed and through doing so he did become the father of many nations exactly as he had been promised: Your descendants will be as many as the stars. - Rom. 4:18 -

We have never failed to remember you in our prayers and to give thanks for you to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ever since we heard about your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you show towards all the saints because of the hope which is stored up for you in heaven. It is only recently that you heard of this when it was announced in the message of the truth. - Col. 1:3-5 -

Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who in his great mercy has given us a new birth as his sons by raising Jesus Christ from the dead so that we have a sure hope and the promise of an inheritance that can never be spoilt or soiled and never fade away because it is being kept for you in heavens. Through your faith, God's power will guard you until the salvation which has been prepared is revealed at the end of time. This is a cause of great joy for you even though you may for a short time have to bear being plagued by all sorts of trails; so that when Jesus Christ is revealed, your faith will have been tested and proved like gold - only it is more precious than gold which is corruptible even though it bears testing by fire - and then you will have praise and glory and honour. You did not see him and yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with joy so glorious that it cannot be described because you believe; and you are sure of the end to which your faith looks forward, that is, salvation of your souls. - 1Peter 1:3-9 -

God's faithfulness is the source of the Christian's deliverance from temptation; assurance of salvation and forgiveness of sins. Faithfulness is also expected in Christian believers and should be deeply reflected in the lives of His people, so that they can be called "the faithful". The New Testament speaks of the faithfulness of Abraham - Neh. 9:8 - Moses - Heb. 3:5 - Paul - 1Cor. 7:25 - the apostles, prophets, baptised, disciples, followers and believers. - 1Cor. 4:1-2; Luke 12:41-44 -

God's is always faithful to His children because the Lord is first of all faithful to Himself. - 2Tim. 2:8-13 -

Let us keep firm in the hope we profess because the one who made the promise is faithful. Let us be concerned for each other to stir a response in love and good works. - Heb. 10:23-24 -
