The New Testament makes a clear distinction between covenants of Law and covenants of Promise. The apostle Paul spoke of these 'two covenants' one originating 'from Mount Sinai' the other from 'the Jerusalem above'. - Gal. 4:24-26 - Paul also argued that the covenant established at Mount Sinai, the Law, is a "ministry of death" and "condemnation" - 2Cor. 3:7; 9 - a covenant that cannot be obeyed because of man's weakness and sin. - Rom. 8:3 -

But "the covenants of promise" - Eph. 2:12 - are God's guarantees that He will provide salvation in spite of man's inability to keep his side of the agreement because of his sin. These many covenants of promise may be considered one covenant of grace, which was fulfilled in the life and ministry of Jesus. His death ushered in the new covenant under which we are justified by God's grace and mercy rather than our human attempts to keep the law. And Jesus Himself is the Mediator of this better covenant between God and man.

He brings a new covenant, as the mediator, only so that the people who were called to an eternal inheritance may actually receive what was promised: his death took place to cancel the sins that infringed the earlier covenant. - Heb. 9:15 -

Jesus' sacrificial death served as the oath or pledge, which God made to us to seal this new covenant. He is determined to give us eternal life and fellowship with Him, in spite of our unworthiness. As the Book of Hebrews declares 'The word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever'. - Heb. 7:28 - This is still God's promise to any person who turns to Him in repentance.

The concept of covenant between God and His people is one of the most important theological truths of the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible. By making a covenant with Abraham, God promised to bless His descendants and to make them His special people. Abraham, in return, was to remain faithful to God and to serve as a channel through which God's blessings could flow to the rest of the world. - Gen. 12:1-3 -

Even before Abraham's time, God also made a covenant with Noah, assuring, Noah that He would not again destroy the world by flood. - Gen. 9 - Another famous covenant was between God and David, in which David and his descendants were established as the royal heirs to the throne of the nation of Israel. - 2Sam. 7:12; 22:51 - This covenant reached its highest fulfillment when Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of the line of David, was born in Bethlehem about a thousand years after God made this promise to David the king.

A covenant, in the biblical sense, implies much more than a contract or simple agreement. A contract always has an end date, while a covenant is a permanent arrangement. Another difference is that a contract generally involves only one part of a person, such as a skill, while a covenant covers a person's total being.

The word for covenant in the Old Testament also provides additional insight into the meaning of this important ideas. It comes from a Hebrew root word which means 'to cut'. This explains the strange custom of two people passing through the cut bodies of slain animals after making an agreement with each other. - Jer. 34:18 - A ritual or ceremony such as this always accompanied the making of a covenant in the Old Testament. Sometimes those entering into a covenant shared a holy meal. -Gen. 31:54 - Abraham and his children were commanded to be circumcised as a sign of their covenant with God. - Gen.17:10-11 - Moses sprinkled the blood of animals on the altar and upon the people who entered into covenant with God at Mount Sinai. - Ex. 24:3-8 -

The Old Testament contains many examples of covenants between people who related to each other as equals. For example, David and Jonathan entered into a covenant because of their brotherly love for each other. This agreement bound each of them to certain responsibilities. - 1Sam. 18:3 - But the striking thing about God's covenant with His people is that God is holy, all-knowing, all-powerful and all-loving; but He consents to enter into covenant with man, who is weak, sinful and imperfect.

In the Old Testament, God's Chosen People confirmed their covenant with God with oaths or promises to keep the agreement. At Mount Sinai, the nation of Israel promised to perform 'all the words which the Lord has said'. - Ex. 24:3 - When the people later broke this promise, they were called by their leaders to renew their oath. - 2Kin. 23:3 - By contrast, God does not break promises. His oath to raise up believing children to Abraham is an "everlasting" covenant. - Gen. 22:16-17; 17:7 -

The New Testament makes a clear distinction between covenants of.................

The Credulity of Unbelief

An age without faith is an age of superstition. Religious belief is so essential to the heart that once it is cast aside, some form is called in to fill the void. Unless the house is tenanted with goodness, seven devils worse than the first come in to dwell there. When minds abandon their concern about final destiny, they substitute for the mystery of what happens after death, the mystery of how someone was murdered. But the mystery there must be. At the end of the twentieth century we find ourselves in a era of superstition in which minds believe everything as fanatics and quacks become shrines of worship and objects of adoration.

Whence came the millions to accept the superstition of Nazism, Fascism and Communism if it were not from an emptiness of soul brought by a loss of faith? The essence of political superstition is the identification of the political and the sacred, as the essence of economic superstition is the Communist identification of the labouring class and Messianism. It was the great boast of the eighteenth century that "God" and "the supernatural" would be exorcised by an exposure to light. But what happened with the rejection of religious faith was the upsurge of political superstitions which came very close to making the world a madhouse.

If there is not one great Face of Love that bends over mankind, its troubled mind will fill it with a thousand horrible masks. When religion is strong, it purges the unconscious mind of all those which psychoanalysis tries to expunge in the soul without faith. Even when psychoanalysis does effect what it calls a "transference" of the mental state, it never appeases the hunger of the soul for something spiritual and beyond self to adore and worship. Faith in a human being is not like sawdust in a doll. You cannot rip it open, shake out the sawdust on a couch, analyze its tree origins, put it back and make a new creature.

The thirsty traveller in the desert who mistakes a mirage for an oasis is superstitious. He has abandoned reason and sees a dream for a reality. So our twentieth century, impatient with its long voyage on the sea of life, after having denied a port and thrown away the compass, has turned clouds into islands and fog-banks into imaginary continents. Denying God, we seem to find it necessary to make gods, not out of gold and silver and clay, but out of science, psychology and economics.

Quite apart from the theology of it, the psychological fact stands out that those who have a deep and profound faith in Christ, the Son of God, are less likely to make unmanly submission to unworthy pretenders. This has been proven in thousands and thousands of cases in which Christian missionaries during times of persecution withstood their persecutors while those without faith succumbed. Freedom from dependence on "phonies" is purchased by loyalty to Truth and Love.

The grave danger of loss of faith is not only that others will arise to insist on dominating us, but that our wills will become so weak and our minds so confused as to insist on giving assent. Two women, after undergoing "brainwashing" in a political prison, were finally released. Both women returned to the relative freedom of their homes and families; in a few weeks they asked their captors to return them to prison because they wanted to be dominated. Superstition manifests itself not only in credulity, but also in servility. Scripture says the "last times" will be characterized by a refusal to endure sound teaching.

Many live under the illusion that their rejection of religious faith is a proof that they are immune from credulity. The truth is that they too accept authority, but it is the vague, vaporous, anonymous authority of "they". "They" are wearing green, and the like. Who are "they"? The person of faith at least knows the One Whose guidance he accepts. Few things are more strange than the eagerness with which many so-called educated people swallow the dicta of a mere human being, and swear by his glory. Great indeed is the void left in the heart by the exile of Christ.

Holy refers to moral and ethical wholeness or perfection; freedom from moral evil. Holiness is one of the essential elements of God's nature required of His people. Holiness may also be rendered 'sanctification'. The word holy denotes that which is 'sanctified' or 'set apart' for divine service.

In the Old Testament, God instructed Moses to consecrate Aaron and his sons to the priesthood. - Ex. 29:9 - The children of Israel were admonished to 'remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy'. - Ex. 20:8 - The "Holy of Holies" (or "Holiest of All") was the most sacred place in the desert tabernacle and in the Temple of Jerusalem. - Ex.26:33; Heb. 9:1-9 -

Elisha was called a 'holy man of God'. - 2Kin. 4:9 - Herod feared John the Baptist, 'knowing that he was a just and holy man'. - Mark 6:19-20 - While holy is sometimes used in ceremonial sense, the main use is to describe God's righteousness demanded of His followers. Originating in God's nature, holiness is a unique quality of His character.

In the New Testament, Jesus was the very personification of holiness; He reinforced God's demands for holiness by insisting that His disciples must have a higher quality of righteousness than that of the scribes and Pharisees.

For I tell you, if your virtue goes no deeper than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. - Matt. 5:20 -

Like the prophets, Jesus appealed for more than ceremonial holiness.
This is why I have torn them to pieces by the prophets,
why I slaughtered them with the words from my mouth,
since what I want is love, not sacrifice,
knowledge of God, not holocausts. - Hosea 6:5-6 -

And if you had understood the meaning of the words: What I want is mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the blameless. For the Son of Man is master of sabbath. - Matt. 12:7-8 -

Like Jesus, the apostles taught that sanctification, or true holiness expressed itself in patient and loving service while awaiting the Lord's return. Peter urged the suffering Christians to follow God's example of holiness in their trails.

Do not behave in the way that you liked to before you learnt the truth; make a habit of obedience: to be holy in all you do, since it is the Holy One who has called you, and scripture says: be holy, for I am holy. - 1Pet. 1:14-16 -

Paul's prayer for the saints and thanks God at Thessalonica is timeless in its application to the Church and individual believers.

May the Lord be generous in increasing your love and make you love one another and the whole human race as much as we love you. And may he so confirm your hearts in holiness that you may be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus Christ comes with all his saints. - 1Thess. 3:12-13; 4:1-12 -

The heart is that which is central to man. Nearly all the references to the heart in the Old and New Testament refer to some aspect of human personality. The heart has a much broader meaning than it does to the modern mind. All emotions are experienced by the heart because heart is the inner self that thinks, feels and decides: love and hate; joy and sorrow; peace and bitterness; courage and fear.

He made his people fertile
and more vigorous than their oppressors'
whose hearts he then disposed to hatred of his people
and double-dealing with his servants. - Psalms 105:24-25 -

You have been obedient to the truth and purified your souls until you can love your brothers, in sincerity; let your love for each other be real and from the heart. - 1Peter 1:22 -

I denied my eyes nothing they desired, refused my heart no pleasure, a heart that found all my hard work a pleasure; such was the return I got for all my efforts. - Eccl. 2:10 -

Do not let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God still and trust in me. - John 14:1 -

They will shave their heads for you,
and put sackcloth round their waists.
They will raise a bitter dirge over you,
in their despair. - Ezekiel 27:31 -

And may the peace of Christ reign in your hearts because it is for this that you were called together as parts of one body. Always be thankful. - Col. 3:15 -

The thinking processes of man are said to be carried out by the heart. This intellectual activity corresponds to what would be called mind in English. Thus, the heart may think, understand, imagine, remember, be wise and speak to itself. Decision making is also carried out by the heart; Purpose - Acts 11:23 - Intention - Heb. 4:12 - Will - Eph. 6:6 - are all activities of the heart.

Heart often means someone's true character or personality. Purity or Evil - Jer. 3:17; Matt. 5:8 - Sincerity or Hardness - Ex. 4:21; Col. 3:32 - Maturity or Rebelliousness - Psalms 101:2; Jer. 5:23 - all these describe the heart or true character of individuals. God knows the heart of each person. - Sam. 16:7 - Since a person speaks and acts from his heart, he is to guard it well.

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and it is these that make a man unclean. For from the heart come evil intentions: murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander. These are the things that make a man unclean. - Matt. 15:18-19 -

The most important duty of man is to love God with the whole heart. - Matt. 22:37 - With the heart man believes in Christ and so experiences both love from God and the presence of Christ in his heart.

So far then we have seen that, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by faith we are indeed righteous and at peace with God since it is by faith and through Jesus that we have entered this stage of grace in which we can boast about looking forward to God's glory. But this is not all that we can boast about; we can boast about our sufferings. These sufferings bring patience, as we know and patience brings perseverance, and perseverance brings hope, and this hope is not deceptive because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given us. - Romans 5:1-5; 10:8-10 -

Out of his infinite glory, may he give you the power through his Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and length, the height and the depth; until knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God. - Eph. 3:16-19 -

In the Old Testament, the word 'kindness' or 'loving kindness' refers to God's long-suffering love and God's loyal love toward His people. His determination to keep His promises to His chosen people in spite of their sin and rebellion.

If Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you, it was not because you out-numbered other peoples: you were the least of all peoples. It was for love of you and to keep the oath he swore to your fathers that Yahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. - Deut. 7:7-8 -

Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them and in return Yahweh your God will be true to the covenant and the kindness he promised your fathers solemnly. - Duet. 7:12 -

And I said, Yahweh God of heaven, great God who must be feared, maintaining covenant and kindness with those who love you and obey your commandments. - Neh. 1:5 -

This attribute of God was shown through His divine mercy and forgiveness toward sinners when payment of sins through the sacrificial system was no longer effective.

In the New Testament, the Greek word translated as 'grace' best represents the idea of God's kindness or loving kindness, because God has been gracious toward believers, they should treat all people with kindness. All people are created in God's image and should be treated accordingly. Kindness is not an apathetic response to sin, but a deliberate act to bring the sinner back to God.

You have learnt how it was said: You must love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I say this to you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, in this way you will be sons of your Father in heaven for he causes his sun to rise on bad men as well as good, and his rain to fall on honest and dishonest men alike. For if you love those who love you, what right have you to claim any credit? Even the tax collectors do as much, do they not? And if you save your greeting for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional? Even the pagans do as much, do they not? You must therefore be perfect just as your heavenly Father is perfect. - Matt. 2:43-48 -

Treat others as you would like them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks can you expect? For even sinners do that much. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. Instead, love your enemies and do good, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great reward and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. - Luke 6:31-35 -

That is exactly what God says in Hosea 2:25 - I shall say to a people that was not mine, 'You are my people' and to a nation I never loved, 'I love you'. - Rom. 9:25 -

You did not see him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with joy so glorious that it cannot be described, because you believe; and you are sure of the end to which your faith looks forward, that is, the salvation of your souls. - 1Pet. 1:8-9 -

Light has been associated with the presence, truth, righteous and redemptive activity of God since creation. Before man was created light was brought into being by the Creator.

God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light. God saw that light was good and God divided light from darkness. God called light 'day' and darkness he called 'night'. Evening came and morning came; the first day. - Gen. 1:3-5 -

Throughout the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible, light represents truth, goodness and God's redemptive work. Darkness, on the other hand, symbolizes error, evil and the works of Satan.

This is what we have heard from him,
and the message that we are announcing to you;
God is light; there is no darkness in him at all. - 1John:5 -

The Psalmist declared:
Yahweh is my light and my salvation,
whom need I fear? - Psalm 27:1 -

Now your word is a lamp to my feet,
a light on my path. - Psalm 119:105 -

Light is also used as a symbol of holiness and purity. Apostle Paul counseled the Christians at Rome to put on the armour of light.

The night is almost over, it will be daylight soon - let us give up all the things we prefer to do under cover of the dark; let us arm ourselves and appear in the light. - Rom. 13:12 -

The New Testament presents Jesus as the personification of light or divine illumination. Jesus plainly stated that those who rejected this divine light would bring judgment upon themselves.

When Jesus spoke to the people again, he said;
'I am the light of the world;
anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark;
he will have the light of life'. - John 8:12 -

On these grounds is sentence pronounced;
that though the light has come into the world
men have shown they prefer
darkness to the light
because their deeds were evil.
And indeed, everybody who does wrong
hates the light and avoids it,
for fear his actions should be exposed;
but the man who lives by the truth
comes out into the light,
so that it may be plainly seen that what he does is done in God. - John 3:19-21 -

Make sure that you are not included with them. You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light, for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and right living and truth. - Eph. 5:8-9 -

Christianity is unique among all the religions of the world. Most of them or if not all non-Christian emphasize the life of the founder, but Christianity is based on or about the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not only is the death of Christ absolutely essential to Christianity. So is Jesus Christ Resurrection and Ascension.

It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called 'Christians'. - Acts 11:26 - In each instance, the word Christian assumes that the person called by the name was an adherent or a follower of Christ. The designation of the early followers of Christ as Christians was initiated by the non-Christian population of Antioch.

Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul, [Paul] and when he found him Barnabas brought Saul to Antioch. As things turned out they were to live together in that church [Meaning doubtful. Possibly 'they worked together', 'they were received (by the church)', that is, were guests of the church.] a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called "Christians". - Acts 11:26 -

Originally it may have been a term of derision. Eventually, however, Christians used it of themselves as a name of honour, not of shame. Prior to their adoption of the name, the Christians called themselves believers. No one else ever dared to join them, but the people were loud in their praise and the numbers of men and women who came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ increased steadily. - Acts 5;12b-16 -

* THE EARLIEST MISSIONS * About this time, when the number of disciples was increasing... - Brothers or Saints - Acts 6:1-7; - Acts 9:1-19 - names which also continued to be used. In this impressive way the word of the Lord Jesus Christ spread more and more widely and successfully. - Acts chapters 6 to 19 -

They all [Here, it seems, not the apostles but all the faithful] used to meet by common consent in the Portico of Solomon. No one else ever dared to join them, but the people were loud in their praise and the numbers of men and women who came to believe in the Lord increased steadily. [Rather than 'More and more joined (the community) as believers in the Lord'. Cf. 11:23-24] So many signs and wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles that the sick were even taken out into the streets and laid on beds and sleeping-mats in the hope that at least the shadow of Peter might fall across some of them as he went past. People even came crowding in from the towns round about Jerusalem, bringing with them their sick and those tormented by unclean spirits, and all of them were cured. - Acts 5:12b-16 -

Foundation of the church of Antioch
Those who had escaped during the persecution that happened because of Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, but they usually proclaimed the message only to Jews. Some of them, however, who came from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch where they started preaching to the Greeks, proclaiming the Good News of the Lord Jesus to them as well. The Lord Jesus Christ helped them, and a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.

The church in Jerusalem heard about this and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. There he could see for himself that God had given grace, and this pleased him, and he urged them all to remain faithful to the Lord Jesus with heartfelt devotion; for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people were won over to the Lord Jesus Christ.

- Acts 11:19-26 -

In modern times the name Christian has been somewhat emptied of its true meaning as a follower of Christ. To some today, Christian means little or nothing, however, its original meaning is a noble one.

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

OMNISCIENCE - a theological term that refers to God's superior knowledge and wisdom, His power to know all things. God is the Lord who knows our thoughts from afar. He is acquainted with all our ways, knowing our words even before they are on our tongues.

Yahweh, you examine me and know me,
you know if I am standing or sitting,
you read my thoughts from far away,
whether I walk or lie down, you are watching,
you know every detail of my conduct.

The word is not even on my tongue,
Yahweh, before you know all about it;
close behind and close in front you fence me around,
shielding me with your hand.
Such knowledge is beyond my understanding,
a height to which my mind cannot attain. - Psalms 139:1-6 -

The word of God is something alive and active: it cut like any double-edged sword but more finely: it can slip through the place where the soul is divided from the spirit, or joints from the marrow; it can judge the secret emotions and thoughts. No created thing can hide from him; everything is uncovered and open to the eyes of the one to whom we must give account of ourselves. - Heb. 4:12-13 -

He needs to consult no one for knowledge or understanding.
Who could have advised the spirit of Yahweh,
what counsellor could have instructed him?
Whom has he consulted to enlighten him,
and to learn the path of justice
and discover the most skillful ways? - Isaiah 40:13-14 -

He is all knowing Lord who prophesies the events of the future, including the death of His Son and the return of Christ at the end of this age when death will be finally overcome. - Isaiah 53 -

I think that what we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his  sons................................. For we must be content to hope that we shall be saved - our salvation is not in sight, we should have to be hoping for it if it were - but as I say, we must hope to be saved since we are not saved yet - it is something we must wait for with patience......................

We know that by turning everything to their good God cooperates with all those who love him, with all those that he has called according to his purpose. They are the ones he chose specially long ago and intended to become true images of his Son, so that his Son might be the eldest of many brothers. He called those he intended for this, those he called he justified and with those he justified he shared his glory.....................................................
For I am certain of this; neither death nor life, no angel, no prince, nothing that exists, nothing still to come, not any power, or height or depth, nor any created thing, can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:18-39 -

Only the all-knowing and all-powerful God can guarantee real freedom from sin, decay and death.

Yes, even today, whenever Moses is read, the veil is over their minds. It will not be removed until they turn to the Lord. Now this Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. - 2Cor. 3:16-17 -

Make no mistake about it; if anyone of you thinks of himself as wise, in the ordinary sense of the word, then he must learn to be a fool before he really can be wise. Why? Because the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As scripture says: The Lord knows wise men thoughts; he knows how useless they are; or again; God is not convinced by the arguments of the wise. So there is nothing to boast about in anything human; Paul, Apollos, Cephas, the world, life and death, the present and the future, are all your servants; but you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God. - 1Cor. 3:18-23 -

OMNIPRESENCE - a theological term that refers to the unlimited nature of God or His ability to be everywhere at all times. God is not the manufactured idols which are lifeless and non existence or any hand made objects. God reveals Himself in the origin of the world and of mankind through creation and in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible as the Lord who is everywhere. God was present as Lord in all creation and there is no escaping Him. He is present in our innermost thoughts. even as we are formed in the womb, He knows all the days of our future.

Where could I go to escape your spirit?
Where could I flee from your presence?
If I climb the heavens, you are there,
there too, if I lie in Sheol.

If I flew to the point of sunrise,
or westward across the sea,
your hand would still be guiding me,
your right hand holding me.

If I asked darkness to cover me,
and light to become night around me,
that darkness would not be dark to you,
night would be as light as day.

It was you who created my inner most self,
and put me together in my mother's womb;
for all these mysteries I thank you:
for the wonder of myself, for the wonder of your works.

You know me through and through,
from having watched my bones take shape
when I was being formed in secret,
knitted together in the limbo of the womb.

You had scrutinised my every action,
all were recorded in your book,
my days listed and determined,
even before the first of them occurred. - Psalms 139:7-17 -

God sees in secret and rewards in secret, as Jesus taught His disciples; He looks not only on outward actions but especially on the inner attitudes of a person's heart.

Be careful not to parade your good deeds before men to attract their notice; by doing this you will lose all reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win men admiration. I tell you solemnly, they have had their reward. But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right hand is doing; your alms giving must be secret, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.

And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in synagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. I tell you solemnly, they have had their reward. But when you pray, go to your private room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in that secret place, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.

In your prayers do not babble as the pagans do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him. So you should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be held holy,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.
And do not put us to the test, but save us from the evil one.

Yes, if you forgive others failings, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours; but if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failings either.

When you fast do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they pull long faces to let men know they are fasting. I tell you solemnly, they have had their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees all that is done in secret; and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you. - Matt. 6:1-18 -

Because God is the Creator and Sustainer of time and space, He is everywhere. Being everywhere, He is our great Comforter, Friend and Redeemer.

OMNIPOTENCE - a theological term that refers to the all-encompassing power of God. The almighty God expects human beings to obey Him, and He holds them responsible for their thoughts and actions. Nevertheless, He is the all-powerful Lord who has created all things and sustains them by the Word of His power.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was a formless void, there were darkness over the deep and God spirit hovered the water.
God said, 'Let there be light', and there was light.......... - Gen. 1, 2 -

In the beginning was the Word:
the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things came to be,
not one thing had its being but through him.
All that came to be had life in him
and that life was the light of men,
a light that shines in the dark,
a light that darkness could not overpower. - John 1:1-5 -

At various times in the past and in various different ways, God spoke to our ancestors through prophets; but in our own time, the last days, he has spoken to us through his Son, the Son that he has appointed to inherit everything and through whom he made everything there is.

He is the radiant light of God's and glory and the perfect copy of his nature, sustaining the universe by his powerful command; and now that he has destroyed the defilement of sin, he has gone to take his place in heaven at the right hand of divine Majesty. So he is now as far above the angels as the title which he has inherited is higher than their own name. - Heb. 1:1-4 -

God reveals that He is all-powerful and in the final sense is the ruler of nature and history. See, the nations are like a drop on the pail's rim,
they count as a grain of dust on the scales. See, the islands weigh no more than fine powder. - Isaiah 40:15 - Yet, He has so fashioned humankind that He graciously appeals to every person to return to Him.

In the Old Testament, life is the physical functions of people, animals and plants. In physical terms, life is the time between birth and death because God is the source of life, it is a gift from Him. He first filled Adam with the breath of life.

God fashioned man of dust from the soil. Then he breath into his nostrils a breath of life and thus man became a living being. - Gen. 2:7 -

He continued to be the source of life. The New Testament expanded on the Old Testament idea of life. The word life began to refer to more than physical existence. It took on a strong spiritual meaning, often referring to the spiritual life that results from man's relationship with God. Eternal life means more than eternal existence. And it is refers to eternal fellowship with God.

Father, the hour has come:
glorify your Son
so that your Son may glorify you;
and, through the power over all mankind that you have given him,
let him give eternal life to all those you have entrusted to him.
And eternal life is this:
to know you,
the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. - John 17:1-3 -

Anyone who believe in the Son has eternal life,
but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son will never see life:
the anger of God stays on him. - John 3:36 -

Do not work for food that cannot last,
but work for food that endures to eternal life,
the kind of food the Son of Man is offering you,
for on him the Father, God himself, has set his seal. - John 6:27 -

Jesus replied:
I tell you most solemnly,
if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man
and drink his blood,
you will not have life in you.

Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood
has eternal life,
and I shall raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food
and my blood is real drink.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me
and I lives in him. - John 6:53-56 -

Eternal life is the highest quality of life. According to the apostle Paul, it is freedom from sin, holiness and a positive relationship with God. This is in contrast to spiritual death, which results from a life of sin.

When you were slaves of sin, you felt no obligation to righteousness and what did you get from this? Nothing but experiences that now make you blush, since that sort of behaviour ends in death. Now, however, you have been set free from sin, you have been made slaves of God, and you get a reward leading to your sanctification and ending in eternal life. For the wage paid by sin is death; the present given by God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Rom. 6:20-23 -

The meaning of life appears frequently in the Gospel of John.

The narrative of the Tower of Babel appears in - Genesis 11:1-9 - as the climax to the account of early mankind found in Genesis chapter 1 to 11. It is an ancient tower symbolizing man's pride and rebellion that was built during the period after the FLOOD. The geographical setting is a plain in the land of Shinar. - Gen. 11:2 - Shinar probably refers to Babylonia. The tower was constructed of brick, because there was no stone in southern Mesopotamia.

In Genesis 11 is told with irony and with a negative attitude toward the people involved. Men delight in bricks and it is known that these are an inferior substitute for stone. - Is. 9:10 - To men the tower is a skyscraper, - Duet. 1:28 - but to God it is so small that He must come down from heaven to catch a glimpse of this tiny effort. The construction of the tower and city is described as an act of self-glorification by the builders. Men seek for their own security in community life and culture, independent of God. This is human initiative apart from God. - Ps. 127:1 - As such, the activity is evil and sinful.

The account moves from a description of a sin to a narration of the punishment. God has to step in to prevent men from seizing yet more power for themselves and going beyond the limits of their creature hood. Gen. 3:22 - Their communication with each other to advance their efforts is frustrated because they begin to speak different languages. Finally, they abandon the building of the city and go their own way, becoming scattered over the earth. The climax of the story occurs when the city is identified with Babel, the Hebrew name for Babylon. This nation's sophisticated culture and power deliberately excluded God. Just as the Old Testament prophets foresaw the future downfall of Babylon in spite of its glory, - Is. 13:19; Rev. 18 - this downfall is anticipated in Genesis 11: the end corresponds to the beginning.

God rejection of the nations symbolized by the Tower of Babel is reversed in - Gen 12:1-3 - by the call of Abraham, through whom all nations would be blessed. Ultimately the sinful and rejected condition of mankind, which is clearly shown by the diversity of human language and territory described in this account, needed PENTECOST as its answer. On this day the Holy Spirit was poured out on all people so they understood one another, although they spoke different languages. - Acts 2:1-11 - Therefore reconciliation of the Jews and the pagans with each other and with God are possible. The barriers that divide men and nations were thus removed.

Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were pagans physically, termed the Uncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the Circumcision by reasons of a physical operation, do not forget, I say, that you had no Christ and were excluded from membership of Israel, aliens with no part in the covenants with their Promise, you were immersed in this world, without hope and without God. But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far apart from us have been brought very close, by the blood of Christ. For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one and broken down the barrier which used to keep them apart, actually destroying in his, own person the hostility caused by the rules and decrees of the Law.

This was to create one single New Man in himself out of the two of them and by restoring peace through the cross, to unite them both in a single Body and reconcile them with God. In his own person he killed the hostility. Later he came to bring the good news of peace, peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near at hand. Through him, both of us have in the one Spirit our way to come to the Father.

So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God's household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord, and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit. - Ephesians 2:11-22 -
