Apostasy is generally defined as the determined willful rejection of Christ and His teachings by a Christian believer. This is different from false belief or error, which is the result of ignorance.

If, after we have been given knowledge of the truth, we should deliberately commit any sins, then there is no longer any sacrifice for them. There will be left only the dreadful prospect of judgment and of the raging fire that is to burn rebels. Anyone who disregards the Law of Moses is ruthlessly put to death on the word of two witnesses or three; and you may be sure that anyone who tramples on the Son of God, and who treats the blood of the covenant which sanctified him/her as if it were not holy, and who insults the Spirit of grace, will be condemned to a far severer punishment. We are all aware who it was that said: Vengeance is mine, I will repay. And again: the Lord will judge his people. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. - Hebrew 10:26-31 -

In other word, a falling away from faith is refers to Apostasy. The nation of Israel fell into repeated back sliding. - Jeremiah 5:6 - The prophet Jeremiah predicted the judgment of God upon such disloyalty.

Your own wickedness is punishing you,
your own apostasies are rebuking you:
consider carefully
how evil and bitter it is for you
to abandon Yahweh your God
and not to stand in awe of me
- it is Yahweh Sabaoth who speaks. - Jeremiah 2:19 -

Some of the noted apostates in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible are: king Saul, who turned back from following the Lord; - 1 Samuel 15:11 - Hymenaeus and Alexander, who have put conscience aside and wrecked their faith; - 1 Timothy 1:19-20 - and Demas, who deserted the apostle Paul because he loved this present world. - 2 Timothy 4:10 -

In Acts 21:20-21 the apostle Paul was described falsely as one who taught the Jews living among the Gentiles to commit apostasy. Second Thessalonians 2:1-3 declares that the Day of the Lord will not come unless the apostasy comes first. This great apostasy will be the time of 'the final rebellion against God, when wickedness will be revealed in human form.' - 2 Thessalonians. 2:1-3 -

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -

In the Old Testament, the word redemption refers to redemption by a KINSMAN, rescue or deliverance and ransom. - Lev. 25:24,51-52; Ruth: 4:6; Jer. 32:7-8; Num. 3:49; Ps. 111:9, 130:7 -

Redemption applied to property, animals, persons, and the nation of Israel as a whole. In nearly every instance freedom from obligation, bondage or danger was secured by the payment of a price, a ransom, bribe, satisfaction or sum of money paid to obtain freedom, favour or reconciliation. Men may redeem property, animals and individuals (slaves, prisoners, indentured relatives) who are legally obligated to God or in bondage for other reasons. God alone, however, is able to redeem from the slavery of sin, enemy oppressors and the power of death. - Deut. 15:15; Job 19:25-26 -

In the New Testament, redemption refers to salvation from sin, death and the wrath of God by Christ's sacrifice. - Heb. 9:12; Rom. 3:24; Eph. 1:14 - The New Testament emphasizes the tremendous cost of redemption: "the Precious blood of Christ" - 1Pet.1:19; Eph. 1:7 - which is also called an atoning sacrifice, "a propitiation by His blood". - Rom. 3:25 - Believers are exhorted to remember the "price" of their redemption as a motivation to personal holiness. - 1Cor. 6:19-20; 1Pet.1:13-19 - The Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible also emphasizes the result of redemption: freedom from sin and freedom to serve God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

How can we fail to rejoice, having been freed from the oppressive bondage of slavery to sin and the fear of death. "Therefore, if the Son of God makes you free, you shall be free indeed".

Since all the children share the same blood and flesh, he too shared equally in it, so that by his death he could take away all the power of the devil, who had power over death and set free all those who had been held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death. - Heb. 2:14-15 -

When Christ freed us, he meant us to remain free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. - Gal. 5:1 -

What do you mean, "you will be made free"? Jesus replied:
I tell you most solemnly,
everyone who commits sin is a slave.
Now the slave's place in the house is not assured,
but the son's place is assured.
So if the Son made you free,
you will be free indeed. - John 8:34-36 -

A second distinguishing fact is that once He appeared, He struck history with such impact that He split it in two, dividing it into two periods: one before His coming, the other after it. Buddha did not do this, nor any of the great Indian philosophers. Even those who deny God must date their attacks upon Him, A.D. so and so, or so many years after His coming.

A third fact separating Him from all others is this: every other person ever came into this world came into it to live. He came into it to die. Death was a stumbling block to Socrates - it interrupted his teaching. But to Christ, death was the goal and fulfillment of His life, the gold He was seeking. Few of His words or actions are intelligible without reference to His Cross. He presented Himself as a Savior rather than merely as a Teacher. It meant nothing to teach men to be good unless He also gave them the power to be good, after rescuing them from the frustration of guilt.

The story of every human life begins with birth and end with death. In the Person of Christ, however, it was His death that was first and His life that was last. The Scripture describes Him as "the Lamb slain as it were, from the beginning of the world." He was slain in intention by the first sin and rebellion against God. It was not so much that His birth cast a shadow on His Life and thus led to His death; it was rather that the Cross was first, and cast its shadow back to His birth. He has been the only life in the world that was ever lived backward. As the flower in the crannied wall tells the poet of nature, and as the atom is the miniature of the solar system, so too, His birth tells the mystery of the gibbet. He went from the known to the known, from the reason of His coming manifested by His name "Jesus" or Savior" to the fulfillment of His coming, namely, His death on the Cross.

John gives us His eternal prehistory; Matthew, His temporal prehistory, by the way of His genealogy. It is significant how much His temporal ancestry was connected with sinners and foreigners! These blots on the escutcheon of His human lineage suggest a pity for the sinful and for the strangers to the Covenant. Both these aspects of His compassion would later on be hurled against Him as accusations: "He is a friend of sinners"; "He is a Samaritan." But the shadow of a stained past foretells His future love for the stained. Born of a woman. He was a man and could be one with all humanity; born of a Virgin, who was overshadowed by the Spirit and "full of grace," He would also be outside that current of sin which infected all men.

A fourth distinguishing fact is that He does not fit, as the other world teachers do, into the established category of a good man. Good man do not lie. But if Christ was not all that He said He was namely, the Son of the living God, the Word of God in the flesh, then He was not "just a good man"; then He was knave, a liar, a charlatan and the greatest deceiver who ever lived. If He was not what He said He was, Christ, the Son of God, He was the anti-Christ! If He was only a man, then He was not even a "good" man.

But He was not only a man. He would have us either worship Him or despise Him - despise Him as a mere man, or worship Him as true God and true man. That is the alternative He presents. It may very well be that the Communists, who are so anti-Christ, are closer to Him that those who see Him as a sentimentalist and a vague moral reformer. The Communists have at least decided that if He wins, they lose; the others are afraid to consider Him either as winning or losing because they are not prepared to meet the moral demands which this victory would make on their souls.

If He is what He claimed to be, a Savior, a Redeemer, then we have a virile Christ and a leader worth following in these terrible times; One Who will step into the breach of death, crushing sin, gloom and despair; a leader to Whom we can make totalitarian sacrifice without losing, but gaining freedom and Whom we can love even unto death. We need a Christ today Who will make cords and drive the buyers and sellers from our new temples; Who will blast the unfruitful fig tree; Who will talk of crosses and sacrifices and Whose voice will be like the voice of the ragging sea. But He will not allow us to pick and choose among His words, discarding the hard ones and accepting the ones that please our fancy. We need a Christ Who will restore moral indignation, Who will make us hate evil with a passionate intensity, and love goodness to a point where we can drink death like water.

It is true that prophecies of the Old Testament can be best understood in the light of their fulfillment. The language of prophecy does not have the exactness of mathematics. Yet if one searches out the various Messianic current in the Old Testament, and compares the resulting picture with the life and work of Christ, can one doubt that the ancient predictions point to Jesus and the kingdom which he established?

God's promise to the patriarchs that through them all the nations of the earth would be blessed; the prediction that the tribe of Judah would be supreme among the other Hebrew tribes until the coming of Him Whom all nations would obey; the strange yet undeniable fact that in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible of the Alexandrian Jews, the Septuagint, one finds clearly predicted the virgin birth of the Messiah; the prophecy of Isaiah 53 about the patient sufferer, the Servant of the Lord, who will lay down his life as a guilt-offering for his people's offenses; the perspectives of the glorious, everlasting kingdom of the House of David - in whom but Christ have these prophecies found their fulfillment?

From the historical point of view alone, here is uniqueness which sets Christ apart from all other founders of world religions. And once the fulfillment of these prophecies did historically take place in the person of Christ, not only did all prophecies cease in Israel, but there was discontinuance of sacrifices when the true Paschal Lamb was sacrificed.

Turn to pagan testimony; Tacitus, speaking for the ancient Romans, says, "People were generally persuaded in the faith of the ancient prophecies, that the East was to prevail, and that from Judea was to come the Master and Ruler of the world." Suetonius, in his account of the life of Vespasian, recounts the Roman tradition thus, "it was an old and constant belief throughout the East, that by indubitably certain prophecies, the Jews were to attain the highest power."

China had the same expectation; but because it was on the other side of the world, it believed that the great Wise Man would be born in the West. The Annals of the Celestial Empire contain the statement:
In the 27th year of Tehao-Wang of the dynasty of the Tehao, on the 8th day of the 4th moon, a light appeared in the South-West which illuminated the king's palace. The monarch, struck by its splendor, interrogated the sages. They showed him books in which this prodigy signified the appearance of the great Saint of the West whose religion was to be introduced into their country.

The Greeks expected Him, for Aeschylus in his Prometheus six centuries before His coming, wrote, "Look not for any end, moreover, to this curse until God appears, to accept upon His Head the pangs of thy own sins vicarious."

How did the Magi of the East know of His coming? Probably from the many prophecies circulated through the world by the Jews as well as through the prophecy made to the Gentiles by Daniel centuries before His birth.

Ciscero, after recounting the sayings of the ancient oracles and the Sibyls about a "King whom we must recognize to be saved," asked in expectation, "To what man and to what period of the time do these predictions point?" The Fourth Eclogue of Virgil recounted the same ancient tradition and spoke of "a chaste woman, smiling on her infant boy, with whom the iron age would pass away."

Suetonius quoted a contemporary author to the effect that the Romans were so fearful about a king who would rule the world that that they ordered all children born that year to be killed - an order that was not fulfilled, except by Herod.

Not only were the Jews expecting the birth of a Great King, a Wise Man and a Savior, but Plato and Socrates also spoke of the 'Logos' and of the Universal Wise Man "yet to come." Confucius spoke of "the Saint"; the Sibyls, of a "Universal King"; the Greek dramatist, of a savior and redeemer to unloose man from the "primal eldest curse." All these were on the Gentiles side of the expectation. What separates Christ from all men is that first He was expected; even in Gentiles had a longing for a deliverer, or redeemer. This fact alone distinguishes Him from all other religious leaders.

A second distinguishing fact.......................

History is full of men who have claimed that they came from God, or that they were gods, or that they bore messages from God - Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius, Christ, Lao-tze, and thousands of others, right down to the person who founded a new religion this very day.

Each of them has a right to be heard and considered. But as a yardstick external to and outside of whatever is to be measured is needed, so there must be some permanent tests available to all men, all civilizations and all ages, by which they can decide whether any of these claimants, or all of them are justified in their claims. These tests are of two kinds: Reason and History. Reason because everyone has it, even those without faith; History, because everyone lives in it and should know something about it.

Reason dictates that if any one of these men actually came from god, the least thing that God could do to support His claim would be to pre-announce His coming. Automobile manufacturers tell their customers when to expect a new model. If God sent anyone from Himself, or if He came Himself with a vitally important message for all men, it would seem reasonable that He would first let men know when His messenger was coming, where He would be born, where He would live, the doctrine He would teach, the enemies He would make, the program He would adopt for the future and the manner of His death. By the extent to which the messenger conformed with these announcements, one could judge the validity of his claims.

Reason further assures us that if God did not do this, then there would be nothing to prevent any impostor from appearing in history and saying 'I come from God' or 'An angel appeared to me in the dessert and gave me this message'. In such cases there would be no objective, historical way of testing the messenger. We would have only his word for it, and of course, he could be wrong.

If a visitor came from a foreign country to Washington and said he was a diplomat, the government would ask him for his passport and other documents testifying that he represented a certain government. His paper would have to antedate his coming. If such proof of identity are asked from delegates of other countries, reason certainly ought to do so with messengers who claim to have come from God. To each claimant reason says, 'What record was before you were born that you were coming?'

With this test one can evaluate the claimants. (And at this preliminary stage, Christ is no greater than the others.) Socrates had no one to foretell his birth. Buddha had no one to pre-announce him and his message or tell the day when he would sit under the tree. Confucius did not have the name of his mother and his birthplace recorded, not were they to men centuries before he arrived so that when he did come, men would know he was a messenger from God.

But, with Christ it was different. Because of the Old Testament prophecies, His coming was not unexpected. There were no predictions about Buddha, Confucius, Lao-tze, Mohammed, or anyone else; but there were predictions about Christ. Others just came and said, 'Here I am, believe me.' They were, therefore, only men among men and not the Divine in the human. Christ alone stepped out of that line saying, "Search the writings of the Jewish people and the related history of the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans." (For the moment, pagan writings and even the Old Testament may be regarded only as historical documents, not as inspired works.)

It is true that the prophecies.................

- 5 - HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER SO THAT YOU MAY HAVE A LONG LIFE IN THE LAND THAT YAHWEH YOUR GOD HAS GIVEN TO YOU. - Ex. 20:12 -

God established parents as the authority figures in the family unit. Children often get their impressions about God from their parents. Parents who walk in the Spirit, honestly desiring to follow the guidelines of the Scriptures, will set better examples for their children. And the children who want to please God will respect their parents, regardless of pressure from the world and their peers.

- 6 - YOU SHALL NOT KILL OR MURDER. - Ex. 20:13 -

Commandments six through nine pertain to our relationships with one another. The breakdown of these guidelines has plunged many civilizations into decay. A person who cares about others, beginning with those in the home, does not want to harm them. This Law reveals God's attitude toward people created in His image. No one has the right to take the life from another.

- 7 - YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. - Ex. 20:14 -

Technically, this commandment refers to being sexually involved with a married person; but it is traditionally used to prohibit all sexual relationships outside of marriage. Again, this commandment involves a right relationship with God and with others. Adultery is possible only if people are prepared to hurt others, to enjoy themselves at the expense of other people. A right attitude toward keeping God first and not harming others is tied together in these commandments. A person who does not steal will not take another mate. And he does not allow covetous thoughts to grow in his mind. He wants God to have his total allegiance.

- 8 - YOU SHALL NOT STEAL. - Ex.20:15 -

Stealing involves taking something that does not belong to you. This could be another life, marriage partner or reputation. This Law also emphasizes the important of getting all your own lawful channels.

- 9 - YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS AGAINST YOUR NEIGHBOR. - Ex. 20:16 -

A good relationship demands honesty in speaking of another. The old saying,"A man word is as good as his name" is sometimes a joke today. But God's people ought to cherish the own reputations and that of others. If a person is unwilling to speak ill of another, he is less likely to steal from him or to commit murder.

- 10 - YOU SHALL NOT COVET YOUR NEIGHBOR' HOUSE. YOU SHALL NOT COVET YOUR NEIGHBOR'S WIFE OR HIS SERVANT, MAN OR WOMAN OR HIS OX OR HIS DONKEY OR ANYTHING THAT IS HIS. - Ex. 20:17 -

This tenth commandment is an outgrowth of the first. If a person heart is fixed on the Lord, he will have the right attitude toward others. Consequently, the desires that rise from his heart will not cause pain or loss to others. The right motive (pleasing God who is first in your life) will result in obeying the other commandments (not hurting others).

Jesus enlarged on the idea prevalent in the Ten Commandments by emphasizing the heart attitude: 'Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.' - Matt. 5:8 - The Christian has blessed joy on earth when his priorities are straight and pleasing to God.

God never intended for the Ten Commandments to be a set of regulations by which the people of Israel would earn salvation. God's favour had already been freely granted! This was overwhelming demonstrated by His deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage. - Deut. 4:37 - Therefore at the heart of the covenant relationship lay an act of divine GRACE, God even prefaced the Ten Commandments with a reminder of His deliverance. - Ex. 20:2 -

The Ten Commandments are still relevant today. The world desperately needs to see the name and character of God displaced in the lives of Christians who take His Word seriously. These Commandments, particularly coupled with the teachings of Christ, are still the best guidelines for practical daily living known to man.

- 1 - YOU SHALL HAVE NO gods EXCEPT ME - Ex.20:3 -

Since God's character forms the basis of the covenant with His people, He demands absolute loyalty. And when the intent of the heart is to put God first, a person's outward actions will reveal it. Then others will see what God's character is like through the actions of His people.

- 2 - YOU SHALL NOT MAKE YOURSELF A CARVED IMAGE OR ANY LIKENESS OF ANYTHING IN HEAVEN OR ON EARTH BENEATH OR IN THE WATERS UNDER THE EARTH; YOU SHALL NOT BOW DOWN TO THEM OR SERVE THEM. - Ex. 20:4-6 -

The second Commandment is necessary because people do not always keep the first. The Israelites made a golden calf to worship even as the Lord gave the Laws to Moses. And since Israel had so many contacts with people who did not worship images including replicas of their earthly rulers, God gave them this Law. God has never been a tangible, visible Being but always a Spirit. - Deut. 4:12; John 4:24 -

- 3 - YOU SHALL NOT UTTER THE NAME OF YAHWEH YOUR GOD TO MISUSE IT OR IN VAIN. - Ex. 20:7 -

God's name and His character are inseparable. Using His Holy name lightly and in vain or misuse it, empty manner is insulting and degrading. This could be done by perjuring oneself in a court of law or by cursing. However, this Commandment also applies to hypocritical worship, using God's name in meaningless prayer and praise. - Is. 29:13 -

- 4 - REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY AND KEEP IT HOLY. - Ex. 20:8-11 -

Sabbath means 'rest' but God intended for this day to stand for more than an absence of work. It was to be a day of worship as well - a day for setting aside all thoughts of materialistic gain and thinking about Him, God Himself set the pattern by ceasing from His labours after creating the world. Why, then, must modern day Christians feel that being busy is equated with spiritual?

- 5 - HONOUR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER...............

Although God gave the Ten Commandments to His people through Moses at Mount Sinai more than 3,000 years ago, they are still relevant today. They have an abiding significance. These Laws originate from God and from His eternal character; therefore, their moral value cannot change. They are part of a covenant between God and His people. These Laws are often called the Decalogue, from the Greek word which means "ten words".

About 1,300 years after God gave the Laws, Jesus upheld them, calling them the 'Commandments' and listing five of them for the rich young ruler. - Matt. 19:16-22 - And in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus showed that His coming had not canceled the Commandments. He specifically mentioned the Laws, against killing - Matt. 5:21 - and committing adultery. - Matt. 5:27 -

Jesus actually placed these Laws on a higher place by demanding that the Spirit as well as the legal aspects of the Law be kept. Jesus placed His eternal stamp of approval on the Law by declaring "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets, I did not come to destroy but to fulfill". - Matt. 5:17-19 -

The Holy God uttered His Commandments from the top of Mount Sinai amid smoke and fire - visible expressions of His power, His majesty and His authority. - Ex. 19:16 to 20:17 - Later the Commandments were engraved on two tablets of stone, 'written with the finger of God'. - Ex. 31:18 -

The awesome nature of the events surrounding the giving of the Law is mentioned a number of times in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible perhaps to emphasize the solemnity of the occasion. - Ex. 19:16-19; Deut. 4:11-12 -

God never intended for the Ten.............

The anointed person belonged to God in a special sense. The phrases, "the Lord's anointed", "God's anointed", "My anointed", "Your anointed", or "His anointed" are used of Saul - 1Sam. 26:9,11 - David - 2Sam. 22:51 - and Solomon. - 2Chr.6:42 - Priests, kings and prophets were anointed. Oil was poured on the head of the person being anointed. - Ex.29:7 - Kings were set apart through the ritual of anointing which was performed by a prophet who acted in God's power and authority. - 1Sam. 15:1 - The Old Testament also records two instances of the anointing of a prophet. - 1Kin. 19:16; Is. 61:1 -

In the New Testament all who are Christ's disciples are said to be anointed; they are God's very own, set apart and commissioned for service.
Remember it is God himself who assures us all, and you, of our standing in Christ, and has anointed us, marking us with his seal and giving us the pledge, the Spirit, that we carry in our hearts. - 2Cor. 1:21-22 -

Jesus the Messiah is described as "anointed". This description is found in the psalms of the Old Testament which prophesy the coming of Christ and in the preaching of the apostle Peter in the Book of the Acts of the Apostles.Anointing was frequently used in connection with healing. The Holy Spirit's activities in a believer's life are pictured in terms associated with anointing. Jesus' disciples anointed the sick.

So they set off to preach repentance; and they cast out many devils and anointed many sick people with oil and cured them. - Mark 6:12-13 - James instructed the elders of the church to anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord and pray over him. - James 5:14 - This anointing was for the purpose of healing.

Anointing in the New Testament also refers to the anointing of the Holy Spirit which brings understanding and knowledge.

Those rivals of Christ came out of our own number but they had never really belonged; if they had belonged, they would have stayed with us;
but they left us, to prove that not one of them
ever belonged to us.
But you have been anointed by the Holy One,
and have all received the knowledge. - 1John 2:19-20 -

But you have not lost the anointing that he gave you,
and you do not need anyone to teach you;
the anointing he gave teaches you everything:
you are anointed with the truth, not with a lie,
and as it has taught you, so you must stay in him. - 1John 2:27 -

This anointing is not only for kings, priests and prophets; it is for everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. The anointing occurs physically with a substance such as oil, myrrh, or balsam. But this is also a spiritual anointing, as the Holy Spirit anoints a person's heart and mind with the love and truth of God.

Dreams have had a prominent place in the religious literature of ancients peoples. In a dream God warned Abimelech, the king of Gerar, not to touch Sarah because she was Abraham's wife. The Lord spoke to Jacob (Israel) in a dream in which He renewed the COVENANT and assured Jacob (Israel) of His protection and presence.

Two special cycles of dreams in which interpretation was involved occur in the Old Testament. The first cycle related to Joseph - Gen. 37:5-10 - or his officers. The second cycle involved Daniel - Dan. 2:14-45 - with the dreams coming to Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. The dreams in each case pertained to events of the future. God granted the ability to interpret these dreams to Joseph - Gen.40:8, 41:12 - and Daniel. - Dan. 2:20-45 - But dreams with their proposed prophecies were not accepted uncritically. The False prophet and his prophecy had to be recognized and rejected. True prophet Jeremiah, especially, denounced the false prophets who spoke with lies and always with a deceptive nature.

In the New Testament, God appeared to Joseph in a dream after His announcement of the forthcoming birth of Jesus. God also spoke through these dreams to protect the infant Jesus. - Matt. 1:20; 2:13-14 -

Visions refers to experiences similar to dreams through which supernatural insight or awareness is given by revelation. But the difference between a dream and a vision is that dreams occur only during sleep, while visions can happen while a person is awake. - Dan. 10:7 -

People who had visions were filled with a special consciousness of God. The most noteworthy examples in the Old Testament of recipients of visions are prophet Ezekiel and prophet Daniel. Visions in the New Testament are most prominent in the Gospel of Luke, the Book of the Acts of the Apostles and the Book of Revelation. The purpose of visions was to give guidance and direction to God's servants.

Monotheism refers to worship of one supreme God, an important characteristic of the worship system of the Hebrew people. One of the central teachings in the Old Testament is Deuteronomy 6:4 - 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God. the Lord is one!' Against the idolatry of surrounding nations with their many gods. ( Polytheism ) God revealed this essential aspect of his nature to Israel in the Old Testament period. The Lord is one God.

Listen, Israel: Yahweh our God is the one Yahweh. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength. Let these words I urge on you today be written on your heart. You shall repeat them to your children and say them over to them whether at rest in your house, at your lying down or at your rising; you shall fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a circlet; you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. - Deut. 6:4-9 -

In the New Testament God further revealed that He is One in Three and that His essential being is triune. God is the triune family of Father, Son , and Holy Spirit, united in will, purpose, holiness, and love. Accordingly, Christianity is both monotheism and trinitarian.

Jesus' oneness with the Father is explicit in the Gospel of John. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". - John 1:1 - Jesus Himself consciously laid claim to His oneness with the Father. This angered his opponents so much that they sought to kill Him. The absolute unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is expressed throughout the New Testament.

His answer to them was, 'My Father goes on working, so do I'. But that only made the Jews even more intent on killing him, because, not content with breaking the sabbath, he spoke of God as his own Father, and so made himself God's equal.
To this accusation Jesus replied:

I tell you most solemnly,
the Son can do nothing by himself;
he can do only what he sees the Father doing:
and whatever the Father does the Son does too.
For the Father loves the Son
and show him everything he does himself,
and he will show him even greater things than these,
works that will astonish you.

Thus, as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,
so the Son gives life to anyone he chooses;
for the Father judges no one;
he has entrusted all judgement to the Son,
so that all may honour the Son
as they honour the Father.
Whoever refuses honour to the Son
refuses honour to the Father who sent him.

I tell you most solemnly,
whoever listens to my words,
and believes in the one who sent me,
has eternal life;
without being brought to judgement
he has passed from death to life. - John 5:17-24 -

The New Testament was written over a period of about 100 years. The original language in which it was written was Greek. It tells of Christ's coming, His Life, His Teachings, His Person, His Works and the growth of the early Church.

The New Testament refers to the second major division of the Holy Bible. The New Testament embodies the new covenant of which Jesus was MEDIATOR. This new covenant was sealed with the atoning death of Jesus Christ.

He brings a new covenant, as the mediator, only so that the people who were called to an eternal inheritance may actually receive what was promised: his death took place to cancel the sins that infringed the earlier covenant. Now wherever a will is in question, the death of the testator must be established: indeed, if only becomes valid with that death, since it is not meant to have any effect while the testator is still alive.

That explains why even the earlier covenant needed something to be killed in order to take effect, and why, after Moses had announced all the commandments of the Law to the people, he took the calves blood, the goats blood and some water, and with these he sprinkled the book itself and all the people, using scarlet wool and hyssop; saying as he did so: This is the blood of the covenant that God has laid down for you. after that, he sprinkled the tent and all the liturgical vessels with blood in the same way. In fact, according to the Law almost everything has to be purified with blood: and if there is no shedding of blood, there is no remission.

Obviously, only the copies of heavenly things can be purified in this way, and the heavenly things themselves have to be purified by a higher sort of sacrifice than this. it is not as though Christ had entered a man-made sanctuary which was only modeled on the real one; but it was heaven itself, so that he could appear in the actual presence of God on our behalf. And he does not have to offer himself again and again, like the high priest going into the sanctuary year after year with the blood that is not his own, or else he would have had to suffer over and over again since the world began.

Instead of that, he has made his appearance once and for all, now at the end of the last age, to do away with sin by sacrificing himself. Since men only die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, too, offers himself only once to take the faults of many on himself, and when he appears a second time, it will not be to deal with sin but to reward with salvation those who are waiting for him. - Hebrews 9:15-28 -

The Old Testament refers to the first of the two major sections into which the Holy Bible is divided, the other being the New Testament. The books of the Old Testament were written over a period of about 1,000 years in the Hebrew language, except for a few selected passages, which were written in Aramaic. The Old Testament tells of the preparation that was made for Christ's coming.

The word testament is best translated "covenant". God called people, the nation of Israel to live in covenant with Him. The Old Testament begins with God's creation of the universe and continues by describing the mighty acts of God in and through His people. It closes about 400 years before the coming of Jesus Christ, who established a NEW COVENANT as prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah. - Jer. 31:31-34 -

The title 'Old Testament' apparently came from the writings of the apostle Paul, who declared; indeed, to this very day, that same veil is still there when the old covenant is being read, a veil never lifted, since Christ alone can remove it.

Now if the administering of death, in the written letters engraved on stones, was accompanied by such a brightness that the Israelites could not bear looking at the face of Moses, though it was a brightness that faded, then how much greater will be the brightness that surrounds the administering of the Spirit. For if there was any splendour in administering condemnation. there must be very much greater splendour in administering justification. In fact, compared with this greater splendour, the thing that used to have such splendour now seems to have none; and if what was so temporary had any splendour, there must be much more in what is going to last forever.

Having this hope, we can be quite confident, not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites would not notice the ending of what had to fade. And anyway, their minds had been dulled; indeed, to this very day, that same veil is still there when the old covenant is being read, a veil never lifted, since Christ alone can remove it. Yes, even today, whenever Moses is read, the veil is over their minds. It will not be removed until they turn to the Lord. Now this Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, with our unveiled faces reflecting like mirrors the brightness of the Lord, all grows brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect; this is the work of the Lord who is Spirit. - 2Cor. 3:7-18 -

The literal meaning of regeneration is 'morally or spiritually reformed', in another word, it is "born again". In regeneration a person's sinful nature is changed and he is enabled to respond to God in faith and love.

Remember, there was a time when we too were ignorant, disobedient and misled and enslaved by different passions and luxuries; we lived then in wickedness and ill-will, hating each other and hateful ourselves.

But when the kindness and love of God our saviour for mankind were revealed, it was not because he was concerned with any righteous actions we might have done ourselves; it was for no reason except his own compassion that he saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and by renewing us with the Holy Spirit which he has so generously poured over us through Jesus Christ our saviour. He did this so that we should be justified by his grace, to become heirs looking forward to inheriting eternal life. This is the doctrine that you can rely on. - Titus 3:3-8 -

Regeneration is "born again" and it is the spiritual change brought about in a person's life by an act of God. There is a first birth and a second birth. The first birth, as Jesus said to Nicodemus is "of the flesh"; the second birth is "of the Spirit". - John 3:1-12 - Being born of the Spirit is essential before a person can enter the kingdom of God. Every scripture command to man to undergo a radical change of character from self-centeredness to God-centeredness is, in effect, an appeal to be "born again".

People who are interested only in unspiritual things can never be pleasing to God. Your interests, however, are not in the unspiritual but in the spiritual, since the Spirit of Christ of God has made his home in you. In fact, unless you possessed the Spirit of Christ you would not belong to him. - Rom. 8:8-9 - Ps. 51:5-11; Jer. 31:33; Zech. 13:11 -

Great religious experiences like that of Jacob at Jabbok, - Gen. 32:22-32 - Moses at the burning bush, - Ex. 3:1 - Josiah on hearing the reading of the Law - 2Kin. 22:8-13 -  Isaiah in the Temple - Is. 6:1-8 -might well be regarded as "new birth". Thus, regeneration involves an enlightening of the mind, a change of will and a renewed nature. It extends to the total nature of man, changing a person's desires and restoring him to a right relationship with God in Christ.

The need for regeneration grows out of humanity's sinfulness. It is brought about through God's initiative. God works in the human heart and the person responds to God through faith and love. Thus, regeneration is an act of God through the Holy Spirit, resulting in resurrection from sin to a new life in the Lord Jesus Christ.

From now onwards, therefore, we do not judge anyone by the standards of the flesh. Even if we did once know Christ in the flesh, that is not how we know him now. And for anyone who is in Christ there is a new creation; the old creation has gone and now the new one is here. - 2Cor. 5:16-17 -
