God acts in accordance with the laws and principles that He has established in the world. The laws of the nature are nothing more than man's description of how we perceive God at work in the world. They neither have inherent power nor do they work by themselves.

Man is not free to choose and acts independently from God's will and plan; he chooses and acts in accordance with them. God's actions, however, do not violate the reality of human choice or negate man's responsibility as a moral beings. However, God permits sinful acts to occur but He does not cause man to sin. He often overrules evil for good.

Remember Yahweh your God: it was he who gave you this strength and won you this power thus keeping the covenant then, as today, that he swore to your fathers. Be sure that if you forget Yahweh your God, if you follow other gods, if you serve them and bow down before them - I warn you today - you will most certainly perish. - Deut. 8:18-19 -

The evil you planned to do me has by God's design been turned to good that he might bring about as indeed, he has, the deliverance of a numerous people. So you need not be afraid; I myself will provide for you and your dependents. In this way, he reassured them with words that touched their hearts. - Gen. 50:20-21 -

Surely a potter can do what he likes with the clay? It is surely for him to decide whether he will use a particular lump of clay to make a special pot or an ordinary one? Or else imagine that although God is ready to show his anger and display his power, yet he patiently puts up with the people who make him angry, however, much they deserve to be destroyed. - Rom. 9: 21-22 -

Everyone came running towards them in great excitement to the Portico of Solomon, as it is called where the man was still clinging to Peter and John. When Peter saw the people he addressed them, 'Why are you so surprised at this? Why are you staring at us though we had made this man walk by our own power or holiness? You are Israelites and it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our ancestor who has glorified his servant Jesus, the same Jesus you handed over and then disowned in the presence of Pilate after Pilate had decided to released him.

It was you who accused the Holy One, the Just One, you who demanded the reprieve of a murderer while you killed the prince of life. God, however, raised him from the dead and to that fact we are the witnesses; and it is the name of Jesus which through our faith in it has brought back the strength of this man whom you see here and who is well known to you. It is faith in that name that has restored this man to health, as you can all see. Now you must repent and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out and so that the Lord may send the time of comfort. - Acts 3: 11-16, 19 -

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -

Providence is the continuous activity of God in His creation by which He preserves and governs. The doctrine of providence affirms God's absolute lordship over His creation and confirms the dependence of all creation on the Creator. It is the denial of the ideas that the universe is governed by chance or fate.

Through His providence God controls the universe, the physical world, the affairs of nations, man's birth and destiny and the protection of His people. - Ps. 103:19; Matt.5:45; Gal. 1:15; Ps. 4:8 - God preserves all things through His providence.

He safeguards the steps of his faithful
but the wicked vanish in darkness
(for it is not by strength that man triumphs) - 1Sam.2:9 -
Yet in fact, he is not far from any of us since it is in him that we live, and move, and exists, as indeed some of your own writers have said:
"We are all his children". - Acts 17:28 -

Without His continual care and activity the world would not exist. God also preserves His people through His providence.
You will be hated by all men on account of my name but not a hair of your head will be lost. Your endurance will win you your lives. - Luke 21:18 -
The trails that you have had to bear are no more than people normally have. You can trust God not to let you be tried beyond your strength and with any trail he will give you a way out of it and the strength to bear it. - 1Cor. 10:13 -
Remember: Anyone who wants to have a happy life and to enjoy prosperity must banish malice from his tongue, deceitful conversations from his lips; he must never yield to evil but must practise good; he must seek peace and pursue it. Because the face of the Lord frowns on evil men but the eyes of the Lord are turned towards the virtuous, his ears to their cry. - 1Pet. 3:10-12 -

Divine government is the continued activity of God by which He directs all things to the ends He has chosen in His eternal plan. God is King of the universe who has given Christ all power and authority to reign.

Jesus come up and spoke to them. He said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations: baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always: yes, to the end of time. - Matt. 28:18-20 -

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed, to bring you to full knowledge of him. May he enlighten the eyes of your mind so that you can see what hope his call holds for you, what rich glories he has promised the saints will inherit and how infinitely great is the power that he has exercised for us believers. This you can tell from the strength of his power at work in Christ when he used it to raise him from the dead and to make him sit at the right hand, in heaven, far above every Sovereignty, Authority, Power, or Domination, or any other name that can be named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. - Eph. 1:17-21 -

He governs insignificant things as well as man's good and evil deeds.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. Why, every hair on your head has been counted. So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows. - Matt. 10:28-31 -

In the past he allowed each nation to go its own way; but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you; he sends you rain from heaven, he makes your crops grow when they should, he gives you food and makes you happy. - Acts 14:16-17 -

Most of Jesus' parables have one central point. Thus, do not resort to fanciful interpretations or exegesis that find 'spiritual truth' in every minute detail of the parable. The central point of the parable of the Good Samaritan is that a hated Samaritan proved to be a neighbour to be the wounded man. He showed the traveler the mercy and compassion denied to him by the Levite, representatives of the established religion. The one central point of this parable is that we should also extend compassion to others even those who are not of our own nationality, race or religion. - Luke 10:25-37 -

In finding the central meaning of a parable we needs to discover the meaning the parable had in time of Jesus. We need to relate the parable to Jesus' proclamation of the kingdom of God and to His miracles. This means that parables are more than simple folk stories; they are expressions of Jesus' view of God, man, salvation and the new age which dawned in His ministry. A good example of this approach are the parables dealing with the four 'lost' things, the lost sheep, the lost coin and the two lost sons. - Luke 15:3-32 -

The historical context is found in Luke 15:1-2; Jesus had table fellowship with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees and the scribes of Jesus' day saw such action as disgusting because in their view it transgressed God's holiness. If Jesus truly were a righteous man they reasoned then, He would not associate with such people; He would keep Himself and separate from sinners. In response to their murmuring Jesus told them these parables.

God rejoices more, He said, over the repentance of one sinner than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. - Luke 15:7 - That's, than over the religious professionals who congratulate themselves over their own self achieved 'goodness' [compare the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector - Luke 18:9-14 -] Likewise, the prodigal son - Luke 15:11-24 - represents the tax collectors and sinners; the older son represents the scribes and Pharisees. - Luke 15:25-32 -

A major theme in Jesus' parables is the demand of following Him in authentic discipleship. In the parable Jesus showed clearly that the time for decision is now. Jesus demanded that His followers be prepared to give up all and are call to a radical decision to follow Him regardless of the cost.

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls; when he finds one of great value he goes and sells everything he owns and buys it. - Matt. 13:44-46 -

Parable is a short and simple story designed to communicate a spiritual truth, religious principle or moral lesson; a figure of speech in which truth is illustrated by a comparison or example drawn from everyday experiences. A parable is often no more than an extended metaphor or simile using figurative language in the form of a story to illustrate a particular truth. The Greek word for parable literally means 'a laying by the side of' or ' a casting alongside' thus, 'a comparison or likeness.' In a parable something is placed alongside something else in order that one may throw light on the other. A familiar custom or incident is used to illustrate some truth less familiar.

Although Jesus was the master of the parabolic form, He was not the first to use parables. Example of the effective use of parables are found in the Old Testament. Perhaps, the best known of these is true prophet Nathan parable of the rich man who took the one little ewe lamb that belonged to a poor man. - 2Sam. 12:1-4 - By means of this parable, Nathan reproved King David and convinced him of his sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba. - 2Sam. 12:5-15 - A wise woman of Tekoa also used a parable to convince King David to let his son return to Jerusalem.

Jesus' characteristic method of teaching was through parables. Two of His profound parables are the parable of the lost son and the parable of the Good Samaritan. - Luke 15:11-32; 10:25-27 -

Both parables illustrate God's love for sinners and God's command that we show compassion to all people. Actually, the parable of the lost son or sometimes called the parable of the prodigal son or the parable of the loving father, is the story of two lost sons: the younger son [typical of tax collectors and prostitutes] who wasted possessions with indulgent living and the older son [typical of the self righteous scribes and Pharisees] who remained at home but was a stranger to his father's heart.

Some entire chapters in the Gospels are devoted to Jesus' parables; for instance, MATTHEW 13, MARK 4 and LUKE 8. Although parables are often memorable stories, impressing the listener with a clear picture of the truth even the disciples were sometimes confused as to the meaning of parables. For example, after Jesus told the parable of the darnel or wheat, - Matt. 13:24-30 - the disciples needed interpretation in order to understand its meaning. - Matt. 13:36-43 -

Jesus sometimes used the parabolic form of teaching to reveal the truth to those who followed Him and to conceal the truth from those who did not. His parables thus fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 6:9-10 - Like a double edged sword they cut two ways - enlightening those who sought the truth and blinding those who were disobedient.

Most of Jesus' parables....................

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew were described as God's elect. The New Testament speaks of Christ as God's Chosen One and God's new chosen people. - Rom. 8:33 -

The gracious and free act of God by which He calls those who become part of His kingdom and special beneficiaries of His love and blessings refers to Elect or Election. Election sometimes refers to the election of Israel and the Church as a people for special service and privileges. It may also refer to the election of a specific individual to some office or to perform some special service. Still others passages of the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible refer to the election of individuals to be children of God and heirs of eternal life.

Throughout the history of redemption election has characterized God's saving activity. He chose and called Abraham from Ur to Canaan making an everlasting covenant with him and his offspring. - Gen.11:31-12:7; Neh. 9:7; Is. 41:8 - God also called Moses to lead His people out of bondage. He chose Israel from among the nations of the world to be His special covenant people. - Ex. 2:24-3:10; Deut. 6:21-23; Ps. 105; Duet. 4:37, 7:6-7; Is. 44:1-2 -

Election to salvation take place in Christ as part of God's purpose for the human race. Before the world was made he chose us, chose us in Christ - Eph. 1:4 - We are God's work of art created in Christ Jesus to live the good life as from the beginning he had meant us to live it. - Eph. 2:10 - As part of His eternal plan God allowed man to use his freedom to rebel against Him. Thus, it is gracious of God to save those who find salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not unjust of Him not to saved everyone since no one deserves to be saved.

Does it follow that God is unjust? Of course not. Take what God said to Moses: I have mercy on whom I will, and I show pity to whom I please. In other words, the only thing that counts is not what human beings want or try to do but the mercy of God. For in scripture he says to Pharaoh: it was for this I raised you up to use you as a means of showing my power and to make my name known throughout the world. In other words, when God wants to show mercy he does and when he wants to harden someone heart he does so.

You will ask me, In that case, how can God ever blame anyone since no one can oppose his will? But what right have you, a human being to cross examine God? The pot has no right to say to the potter. Why did you make me this shape? Surely a potter can do what he likes with the clay? It is surely for him to decide whether he will use a particular lump of clay to make a special pot or an ordinary one?

Or else imagine that although God is ready to show his anger and display his power, yet he patiently puts up with the people who make him angry however, much they deserve to be destroyed. He puts up with them for the sake of those other people; to whom he wants to be merciful, to whom he wants to reveal the richness of his glory, people he had prepared for this glory long ago. Well, we are those people: whether we were Jews or pagans we are the ones he has called. - Rom. 9:14-24 -

Election is gracious; it is also unconditional and unmerited It is an expression of the eternal, sovereign will of God who cannot change. Therefore, the salvation of the elect is certain.

In order to stress that God's choice is free since it depends on the one who calls, not on human merit. - Rom. 9:11 -

They are the ones he chose specially long ago and intended to become true images of his Son so that his Son might be the eldest of many brothers. - Rom. 8:29 -

My brothers, never grow tired of doing what is right. If anyone refuses to obey what I have written in this letter, take note of him and have nothing to do with him, so that he will feel that he is wrong; though you are not to regard him as an enemy but as a brother in need of correction. - 2Thes. 2:13-15 -

The need for a new heaven and a new earth arises from man's sin and God's judgment. It is not from some deficiency or evil in the universe.

To the man he said, Because you listen to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat,
Accursed be the soil because of you.
With suffering shall you get your food from it
everyday of your life. - Gen. 3:17 -

The apostle Paul referred to the Old Testament doctrine of the Day of the Lord and applied it to the events that will occur at the Second Coming of Christ. When Christ returns, this present evil age will give way to the age to come. The universe will be purified and cleansed by the power of God. This will be reminiscent of the purging of the earth in the days of Noah but on a universal scale.

The Day of the Lord will come like a thief and then with a roar the sky will varnish, the elements will catch fire and fall apart, the earth and all that it contain will be burnt up. Since everything is coming to an end like this, you should be living holy and saintly lives while you wait and long for the Day of God to come when the sky will dissolve in flames and the elements melt in the heat. What we are waiting for is what he promised: the new heavens and new earth, the place where righteousness will be at home.

So then, my friends, while you are waiting do your best to live lives without spot or stain so that he will find you at peace. Think of our Lord's patience as your opportunity to be saved; our brother Paul who is so dear to us told you this when he wrote to you with the wisdom that is his special gift. He always writes like this when he deals with this sort of subject, and this makes some points in his letter hard to understand; these are the points that uneducated and unbalanced people distort, in the same way as they distort the rest of scripture - a fatal thing for them to do.

You have been warned about this, my friends; be careful not to get carried away by the errors of unprincipled people, from the firm ground that you are standing on. Instead, go on growing in the grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory in time and in eternity. Amen. 2Peter 3:10-18 -

This, too, he said to me, "Do not keep the prophecies in this book a secret because the Time is close. Meanwhile let the sinner go on sinning, and the unclean continue to be unclean; let those who do good go on doing good, and those who are holy continue to be holy. Very soon now, I shall be with you again, bringing the reward to be given to every man according to what he deserves. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Happy are those who will have washed their robes clean, so that they will have the right to feed on the tree of life and can come through the gates into the city. These others must stay outside: dogs, fortune-tellers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and everyone of false speech and false life. - Rev. 22:10-15 -

Heaven is a word that expresses several distinct concepts in the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible:

1. - As used in a physical sense heaven is the expanse over the earth. The tower of Babel reached upward to heaven. God is the possessor of heaven. Heaven is the location of the stars as well the source of dew. - Gen. 1:8, 11:4, 14:9, 1:14, 26:4, 27:28 -

2. - Heaven is also the dwelling place of God. It is the source of the new Jerusalem.

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I never knew it!' He was afraid and said, 'How' awe-inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than a house of God; this is the gate of heaven!' - Gen.28:16-17 -

And now war broke out in heaven, when Michael with his angels attacked the dragon. The dragon fought back with his angels but they were defeated and driven out of heaven. The great dragon, the primeval serpent, known as the devil or Satan who had deceived all the world, was hurled down to the earth and his angels were hurled down with him. Then I heard a voice shout from heaven, "Victory and power and empire forever have been won by our God and all authority for his Christ now that the persecutor who accused our brothers day and night before our God has been brought down.

They have triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the witness of their martyrdom because even in the face of death they would not cling to life. Let the heavens rejoice and all who live there but for you, earth and sea, trouble is coming because the devil has gone down to you in a rage knowing that his days are numbered." - Rev. 12:7-12 -

The city prepared and built by God for those who are faithful to Him. Known as the heavenly Jerusalem this is the city that is to come. They lived there in tents while he looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God. - Heb. 11:10 - They can hardly have meant the country they came from since they had the opportunity to go back to it; but in fact they were longing for a better homeland, their heavenly homeland. - Heb. 11:15-16 - These references in Hebrews find their fulfillment in Revelation chapter 21 and 22. The New Jerusalem is illuminated by the glory of God. It serves as the dwelling place of God among His redeemed forever.

3. - Because of the work of Christ on the Cross, heaven is, in part, present with believers on earth as they obey God's commands. - John 14:1-4 - The word heaven also used as the name of God, the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of heaven are often spoken of interchangeably. - Luke 15:18; John 3:27; Matt. 4:17; Mark 1:15 -

At the end time a new heaven will be created to surround the new earth. This new heaven will be the place of God's perfect presence.

For now I create new heavens and a new earth, and the past will not be remembered , and will come no more to men minds. Be glad and rejoice forever and ever, for what I am creating because I now create Jerusalem "Joy and her people Gladness". I shall rejoice over Jerusalem and exult in my people. - Is. 65:17-19 -

For as the new heavens
and the new earth I shall make
will endure before me
it is Yahweh who speaks
so will your race and name endure

From New Moon to New Moon,
from sabbath to sabbath,
all mankind will come to bow down
in my presence, says Yahweh.

And on their way out they will see
the corpses of men
who have rebelled against me,
Their worm will not die
nor their fire go out;
they will be loathsome to all mankind. - Is. 66:22-24 -

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now and there was no longer any sea. I saw the holy city, and the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband. Then I heard a loud voice call from the throne, You see this city? Here God lives among men. He will make his home among them; they shall be his people and he will be their God; his name is God-with-them. He will wipe away all tears from their eyes; they will be no more death and no more mourning or sadness. The world of the past has gone.

Then the One sitting on the throne spoke: 'Now I am making the whole of creation new' he said, 'Write this; that what I am saying is sure and will come true'. And then he said, It is already done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water from the well of life tree, free to anybody who is thirsty; it is the rightful inheritance of the one who proves victorious; and I will be his God and he a son to me. But the legacy for cowards, for those who break their word or worship obscenities, for murderer and fornicators, and for fortune tellers, idolaters or any other sort of liars, is the second death in the burning lake of sulphur. - Rev. 21:1-8 -

The need for a new heaven................

The Family of God. Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible uses analogies from the family to describe various aspects of the gospels. To be brought into God's family the believers must be "born from above" or "born again".

Jesus answered:
'I tell you most solemnly,
unless a man is born from above,
he cannot see the kingdom of God'.
Nicodemus said, 'How can a grown man be born? Can he go back into his mother's womb and be born again?' Jesus replied:

I tell you most solemnly,
unless a man is born through water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom of God:
what is born of the flesh is flesh;
what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not be surprised when I say:
you must be born from above. - John 3:3-7 -

Because a person has God as his Father he must realize that other believers are his 'father', 'mother', 'brothers' and 'sisters'. Do not speak harshly to a man older than yourself but advise him as you would your own father; treat the younger men as brothers and older women as you would your mother. Always treat young women with propriety as if they were sisters. - 1Tim. 5:1-2 -

The body of believers are known as the body of Christ which is the Church are also refers to as the household of God and the house of faith, hope and love.

So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are citizens like all the saints and part of God's household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit. - Eph. 2:19-22 -

We must never get tired of doing good because if we don't give up the struggle we shall get our harvest at the proper time. While we have the chance, we must do good to all and especially to our brothers in the faith. - Gal. 6:9-10 -

In addition, the concepts of SALVATION, ADOPTION and INHERITANCE are used to described the position of believers in God's family.

But when the appointed time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law and to enable us to be adopted as sons. The proof that you are sons is that God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts; the Spirit that cries, 'Abba, Father'. and it is this that makes you a son, you are not a slave anymore and God has made you son then he has made you heir. - Gal. 4:4-7 -

From this background we can more fully appreciate God as the believer's Father. He knows all about His child even numbering the hairs on his head. - Matt. 10:30 - He protects His child and rescues him when he gets into trouble. - Is. 63:15-16 - He teaches him the way that he should go and supplies all of his needs. - Hos. 11:1-3; Matt. 6:33 - In turn the Father expects honor from His child, although He does not always receive it. - Mal. 1:6 - Jesus sought to instill reverence and honor in the disciples when He taught them to pray:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be held holy,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts,
as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us,
And do not put us to the test,
but save us from the evil one. - Matt. 6:9-13 -

Each extended family was part of a larger group that was called a 'clan'. Often the male members of these clans numbered into the hundreds. - Ezra 8:1-14 - The members of the clan considered themselves to be relatives of the other members of the clan because the members traced their lineage back to a common ancestor. each male member within the clan had one person designated as his go'el or kinsman-redeemer. There were four specific tasks that the redeemer was to perform as his help was needed:
1. If his kinsman sold his property to pay his debts the kinsman redeemed or bought back the property. - Lev. 25:25; Ruth. 4:1-6; Jer. 32:6-15 -
2. The person who was captured and enslaved or who sold himself into slavery had every right to expect his kinsman to redeem him and set him free. - Lev. 25:47-49 -
3. If a person died childless the redeemer married the dead man's widow and raised up a son to carry on the family line and to honor the deceased person in a custom known as 'Levirate Marriage'. - Deut. 25:5-10 -
4. If a person was murdered his redeemer tracked down the killer and even the score. In these passages that describe this custom go'el is translated as 'avenger of blood.' - Deut. 19:12 -

The term kinsman-redeemer is used of God to express His intimate relationship with His people. - Is. 41:14, 43:14, 44:24 - He is their 'next of kin' who ransoms them from bondage. - Is. 43:1-3 - he pays the price to set them free. Apostle Paul reminded the believers that God had bought them at a price, therefore, they were to glorify God.

Keep away from fornication. All the other sins are committed outside the body; but to fornicate is to sin against your own body. Your body , you know, is the Temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you since you received him from God. You are not your own property; you have been bought and paid for. That is why you should use your body for the glory of God. - 1Cor. 6:18-20 -

The father commanded a high position in the family of Old Testament times; his word was law. In addition the Hebrew word translated into English as husband actually means 'lord', 'master', 'owner', or 'possessor.' - Gen. 18:12; Hos. 2:16 - Because of his position, shared to some degree with his wife and a man expected to be treated as royalty by the rest of his family. The fifth commandment carries this idea of the importance of the parents one step further when it states, 'Honor your father and mother.' - Ex. 20:12 -

The word honor often refers to one's response to God. In other words, this commandment suggests that the parents should receive a recognition similar to that given to God. Along with the honor of the position as head of the family the father was expected to assume certain responsibilities. these responsibilities can be classified into three categories: Spiritual, Social and Economic.

First of all the father was responsible for the spiritual well being of the family as well as the individual members of the family. In the earliest ages the father functioned as the priest of his family and sacrificing on their behalf. - Gen 12:8; Job 1:5 - Later when a priesthood was established in Israel and the layman no longer functioned at an altar, the father's spiritual role was redeemed. He continued to be the religious leader in the home. This involved the training of the children in godliness. - Ex. 12:3, 26-27; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:1-4 -

Socially the father's responsibility was to see that no one took advantage of any member of his family. Those who were not protected by a father were truly disadvantaged persons. The two most common categories of 'fatherless' people were widows and orphans. Four specific duties of a father toward his son as stated in the Old Testament writings were to have the son circumcised and to pass on his inheritance to his firstborn son; to find his son a wife and to teach him a trade.

Economically the father was to provide for the needs of the various members of his family. From time to time, however, a lazy person failed to provide for his family. Conscientious men sought to mock the lazy man and shaming him to do what was expected of him. - Prov. 6:6-11 - The apostle Paul rebuked those who considered themselves Christian but who did not look after the needs of their families.

The one who think only of pleasure is already dead while she is still alive; remind them of all this, too, so that their lives may be blameless. Anyone who does not look after his own relations especially if they are living with him, has rejected the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. - 1Tim. 5:6-8 -

God's ideal for the family is that it be a harmonious unit where love for God and neighbor are instilled into each member. - Deut. 6:6-9 - If the couple are divided especially over religious beliefs, they can never have the harmony and sense of common purpose that God desires. Therefore, Old Testament believers were instructed not to marry foreigners who would hinder their faith and bring strife to the marriage. - Ex. 34:13-16 -; Deut. 7:3-4 - Likewise the apostle Paul commanded the New Testament believers "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers."

Corinthians, we have spoken to you very frankly; our mind has been opened in front of you. Any constraint that you feel is not on our side; the constraint is in your own selves. I speak as if to children of mine as a fair exchange, open your minds in the same way.

Do not harness yourselves in an uneven team with unbelievers. Virtue is no companion for crime. Light and darkness have nothing in common. Christ is not the ally of Beliar nor has a believer anything to share with an unbeliever. The temple of God has no common ground with idols and that is what we are - the temple of the living God. We have God's word for it; I will make my home among them and live with them; I will be their God and they shall be my people. Then come away from them and keep aloof, says the Lord. Touch nothing that is unclean, and I will welcome you and be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Almighty Lord. - 2Cor. 6:11-18 -

The Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible describes situations where a man went contrary to the will of God and married an unbeliever. A prime example is Solomon who disobeyed God's commandment and married 700 wives. - 1Kin. 3:3-15 - The tragedy of the final years of his life is summarized in one sentence; 'For it was so when Solomon was old that his wives turned his heart after other gods and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God as was the heart of his father David.' - 1Kin. 11:4 - His wives and their gods caused Solomon to take his eyes off the living God.

From time to time in the history of the nation of Israel the very existence of the country was threatened because of the breakdown of the home. The prophet Micah described the decayed situation of his day when he proclaimed: "Do not trust in a friend; do not put your confidence in a companion; guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom. For son dishonors father, daughter rises against her mother, daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house." - Mic.7:5-6 - Ezra took steps to remedy the family problems of his day - Ezra 9-10 - and the prophet Malachi condemned the men of his generation for being faithless to the wives of their youth. - Mal. 2:14-15 -

The social structure described in the Old Testament is known as a 'patriarchal' society. The word patriarchy means 'the rule of the father'.

The father commanded a high....................

Family refers to a group of persons related by marriage and blood ties and generally living together in the same household. In the world, the family traditionally consists of a man and his wife and their children. In biblical times, however, the family units were often much larger than the primary family, especially if the man had more than one wife.

In the ancient world, the extended family could include any or all of the following relationships; the man and his wife or wives; his concubines or female slaves, his sons and unmarried daughters; the wives of the sons, grandchildren; aged parents and grandparents. Others living in the same house and considered as part of the family could include servants and their children and aliens or strangers, who attached themselves to the family for a time before moving to another location.

The man making the decisions for the family was designated as "father" although he may not have been the oldest male in the group. These family groups, therefore, could be very large. When Jacob's "family" moved to Egypt from the Promised Land, he was accompanied by 70 people in total.

The people who went to Egypt with Jacob, of his own blood and not counting the wives of Jacob's sons, numbered sixty-six. Joseph's son born to him in Egypt were two in number. The members of the family of Jacob who went to Egypt total seventy. - Gen. 46:26-27 -

God's Design for the Family. The concept of the family as the basic social unit reaches back into the CREATION account found in Genesis chapter 1-2. A man was to be the husband of one wife and was to leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. However, not everyone in the Old Testament measured up to God's ideal. Sometimes a man married more than one wife. Solomon is a prime example. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines. - 1Kin. 11:3 - In addition, the family system of the Old Testament, with the man serving as the absolute ruling authority, discouraged a man from leaving his parents; he and his wife usually lived with his parents in the same dwelling.

After God created Adam, He declared "It is not good that a man should be alone." - Gen. 2:18 - Then He created woman and united the couple and they became "one flesh." - Gen. 2:24 - Thus, the family was designed by God to provide companionship for the various members of the family. In addition, the institution of marriage was approved and sanctioned by the Lord.

Some Pharisees approached him and to test him they said, 'Is it against the Law for a man to divorce his wife on any pretext whatever?' He answered, 'Have you not read that the creator from the beginning made them male and female and that he said: This is why a man must leave father and mother, and cling to his wife, and the two become one body.' They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide. - Matt. 19:3-6 -

Righteousness refers to a holy and upright living, in accordance with God's standard. The word righteousness comes from a root word that means "straightness." It also refers to a state that conforms to an authoritative standard. Righteousness is a moral concept. God's character is the definition and source of all righteousness. - Gen. 18:25; Deut. 32:4; Rom. 9:14 - Therefore, man's righteousness is defined in terms of God's.

In the Old Testament the term righteousness is used to define man's relationship with God - Ps.50:6; Jer. 9:24 - and with other people. - Jer. 22:3 - In the context of relationships, righteous action is action that promises the peace and well-being of human beings in their relationships to one another. For example, Adam and Eve would have acted righteously in their relationship with God if they had obeyed Him because His commands defined that relationship. The Ten Commandments and related laws defined Israel's relationship with God. to obey those laws was to act righteously because such obedience maintained the covenant relationship between God and His people.

The sacrificial system in the Old Testament and the cross in the New Testament show man's need for righteousness. Sin is disobedience to the terms that define man's relationship with God and with other people. Since the FALL in the Garden of Eden, man is inherently unrighteous. As the prophet Isaiah said, 'We are all like an unclean thing and all our righteousness are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.' - Is. 64:6 - Man cannot be righteous in the sight of God on his own merits. Therefore, man must have God's righteousness imputed or transferred to him.

The cross of Jesus is a public demonstration of God's righteousness. God accounts or transfers the righteousness of Christ to those who trust in Him.

I am no longer trying for perfection by my own efforts, the perfection that comes from the Law, but I want only the perfection that comes through faith in Christ, and is from God and based on faith. - Phil. 3:9 -

Abram put his faith in Yahweh who counted this as making him justified. - Gen. 15:6 -

So far then we have seen that through our Lord Jesus Christ, by faith we are judged righteous and at peace with God, since it is by faith and through Jesus that we have entered this state of grace in which we can boast about looking forward to God's glory. - Rom. 5:1-2 -

You believe in the one God - that is credible enough but the demons have the same belief and they tremble with fear. Do realise, you senseless man, that faith without good deeds is useless. You surely know that Abraham our father was justified by his deeds because he offered his son Isaac on the altar? There you see it; faith and deeds were working together; his faith became perfect by what he did. This is what scripture really means when it says: Abraham put his faith in God and this was counted as making him justified; and that is why he was called 'the friend of God.' - James 2: 19-23 -

Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show you a way that is better than any one of them. - 1Cor. 12: 31 -
If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels but speaks without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the gift of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are, and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its fulness , to move mountains but without love, then I am nothing at all. - 1Cor. 13:1-2 -

In short, there are three things that last: Faith, Hope and Love; and the greatest of these is Love. - 1Cor. 13:13 -
