Greed is the discovered love of material riches.

We should love God above all things and our neighbour as ourselves, but we can begin to love money than God and more than our neighbour. Greed or avarice is called a "deadly" or "capital" sin because it gives rise to other sins.

Of course, money and material goods are not evil but good indeed, we really need money - to purchase food, clothing and shelter - to survive. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to secure the physical well-being of yourself and your loved ones through the use of money. In fact, the desire is good. Why should God care if people love money more than God and neighbour?

God cares about these matters because God cares about us. Exaggerated love of money does not hurt God - it does not diminish God himself in the least if we do not worship him. No, excessive love of money hurts us. It often leads to actions that are obviously sinful, such as cheating, stealing, bribing, and corruption.

But even if avarice did not lead to other sins it will still be harmful to us. Simply put it, we love money more than God and more than other people, we make ourselves - usually sooner rather than later - miserable, thus most of us have to struggle against avarice, a grave impediment to our own happiness of others.

We tends to forget that God loves us not only more than we love anyone else, but more than we love ourselves. Because of his great love for us, God urges us to ponder and have the 3 things that last; Faith, Hope, and Love.

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -

God bestows more consideration on the purity of intention with which our actions are performed than on the actions themselves - Saint August...
