The aim of the book was to sustain faith and hope among the Jews in their persecutions by showing them the triumph of Daniel over his own severe ordeals and temptations of the same kind; and to hold before them the vision of a time to come when the wrath of God would be satisfied and the kingdom of the saints would begin under a 'Son of Man' whose reign would endure forever.
The historical setting of the story undoubtedly disregards known facts, persons, dates and contains anachronisms in detail; the meaning of the book for its first readers was to be found in its sight into the present and the future in the purposes of God.
DANIEL - (1) The Young Hebrews at the Court of Nebuchadnezzar - Nebuchadnezzar's dream - The king questions his sages - Daniel intervenes - The king's profession of faith - Chapter 1 to 2 - (2) The Adoration of the Golden Statue - Nebuchadnezzar erects a golden statue - The denunciation and condemnation of the Jews - The song of Azariah in the furnace - The song of the three young men - The king acknowledges the miracle - Chapter 3 - The Warning Dream and the Madness of Nebuchadnezzar - Nebuchadnezzar describes his dream - Daniel interprets the dream - The dream comes true - Chapter 3 to 4 - (3) Belshazzar's Feast and Daniel in the Lion Pit - the satraps resent Daniel's promotion - Daniel's prayer - Daniel is thrown to the lions - The king's profession of faith - Chapter 5 to 6 -
(4) Daniel Dream: The Four Beasts - The vision of the beasts and 'Ancient of Days' and of the son of man - The interpretation of the vision - Chapter 7 - (5) Daniel's vision: the Ram and the He-Goat - The vision - The angel Gabriel interprets the vision - Chapter 8 - The Prophecy of the Seventy Weeks - The angel Gabriel explains the prophecy - Chapter 9 - (6) The Great Vision and the Time of Wrath - The vision of the man dressed in linen - The apparition of the angel - The prelude to the prophecy - Early struggles between Seleucids and Ptolemies - Antiochus Epiphanes - Chapter 10 to 11 - (7) The Time of the End - The end of the persecutor - Resurrection and retribution - The sealed prophecy - Chapter 11 to 12 - (8) Susanna and the Judgment of Daniel - Chapter 13 - (9) Bel and the Dragon - Daniel and the priests of Bel - Daniel kills the dragon - Daniel in the lion pit -
In summary : It is the last expression of messianic prophecy in the Old Testament. The New Testament counter part to the Book of Daniel is the Book of Revelation but in this the seals of the closed book are broken, its words are secret no longer since 'the time is at hand' and the coming of the Lord is expected - Rev chapter 5-6, 20:10, 22:20; 1Cor. 16:22 - A book of prophecy about the end time.

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!
I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.
HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -
