Although the people of Sodom were vicious men, great sinners against Yahweh. A notoriously wicked city, when Lot separated himself and his herdsmen from Abraham, he chose to pitch his tent toward Sodom. This was because the fertile plain that surrounded the city 'was well watered everywhere.' - Gen. 13:5-13 -
When Sodom was plundered by Chedor-laomer, the goods and captives which he carried away had to be rescued by Abraham. - Gen. 14:10-24 - However, the wickedness of the peoples of the city continued, and God finally had to destroy Sodom. Fire and brimstone fell from heaven and consumed Sodom and Gomorrah and the other cities of the plain. When Lot's wife looked back at Sodom she was instantly changed into a pillar of salt.
As the sun rose over the land and Lot entered Zoar. Yahweh rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh. He overthrow these towns and the whole plain, with the inhabitants of the towns, and everything that grew there. But the wife of Lot looked back, and was turned into a pillar of salt. - Gen. 19:23-26 -
Early tradition held that the northern end of the Dead Sea was the Valley of Sodom. But the geological conditions of the southern end of the Dead Sea match those of the area around Sodom. Salt formations, asphalt, and sulfur are found in large quantities here. Many scholars believe the cities of the plain nay be located beneath the shallow end of the Dead Sea is fed by five streams, including wadi Zered, which would have provided for a fertile, well-watered plain. In addition, Zoar, one of the cities of the plain is reported by the Jewish historian Josephus to have been visible during his time at the southern end of the sea. - Gen. 13:10; Num. 21:12 -
The sin, vice, wickedness, and infamy of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the judgment of God on this cities is referred to often throughout the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible. Perhaps, it is God's severe reminder to all peoples living on earth, for we're the world and we're the children in the world.
The punishment of Judah.
Had Yahweh not left us a few survivors,
we should be like Sodom,
we should now be like Gomorrah. - Isaiah 1:9 -
Since you have never remembered your youth, since in all this you have done nothing but provoke me, I in my turn intend to bring your conduct down on your own head - it is the Lord Yahweh who speaks. Have you not been disgusting with all your filthy practices?... Your younger sister is Sodom, who lives on your right with her daughters. You have not failed to copy their behaviour, throughout your career you have shown yourself more corrupt than they were. As I live - it is Yahweh who speaks - your sister Sodom and her daughters have not been as bad as you and your daughters. The crime of your sister Sodom was pride, gluttony, arrogance, complacency; such were the sins of Sodom and her daughters. They never helped the poor and needy; they were proud and engaged in filthy practices in front of me; that is why I swept them away as you have seen. - Ezek. 16:43-50 -
I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
and you were like a brand snatched from the blaze;
and yet you never came back to me.
It is Yahweh who speaks. - Amos 4:11 -
All has been foretold in the Old Testament. - Rom. 9:29 -
One who practices sodomy; unnatural sexual intercourse, especially that between two males. These English words are derived from Sodom, an ancient city in the land of Canaan noted for such depraved activities. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
When the two angels reached Sodom in the evening. Lot was sitting at the gate. As soon as Lot saw them he rose to meet them and bowed to the ground... But he pressed them too much that they went home with him. He prepared a meal for them, baking unleavened bread, and they ate. They had not gone to bed when the house was surrounded by the peoples of the town, the peoples of Sodom both young and old, all the people without exemption. Calling to Lot they said, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Send them out to us so that we may abuse them?'
Lot came out to them at the door, and having closed the door behind him said, 'I beg you, my brothers, do no such wicked thing. Listen, I have two daughters who are virgins. I am ready to send them out to you, to treat as it pleases you. But as for the men, do nothing to them, for they have come under the shadow of my roof.' But they replied, 'Out of our way!...Then they forced Lot back...And they struck the peoples who were at the door of the house with blindness, from the youngest to oldest, and they never found the doorway...We are about to destroy this place, for there is a great outcry against them, and it has reached Yahweh. And Yahweh has sent us to destroy them............ - Gen. 19:1-29 -
Sodomy was prohibited by the Law of Moses - Deut. 23:15-19 - and condemned by the apostle Paul.
That is why God left them to their filthy enjoyments and the practices with which they dishonour their own bodies, since they have given up divine truth for a lie and have worshipped and served creatures instead of the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen!
That is why God has abandoned them to degrading passions: why their women have turned from natural intercourse to unnatural intercourse practices and why their menfolk have given up natural intercourse to be consumed with passion with each other, doing shameless things with men and getting an appropriate reward for their perversion.
In other words, since they refused to see it was rational to acknowledge God. God has left then to their own irrational ideas and to their monstrous behaviour. And so they are steeped in all sorts of depravity, rottenness, greed and malice, and addicted to envy, murder, wrangling, treachery and spite. Libellers, slanderers, enemies of God, rude, arrogant and boastful, enterprising in sun, rebellious to parents, without brains, without honours, without love or without pity. They know what God's verdict is: that those who behave like this deserve to die - and yet they do it; and what is worse, encourage others to do the same. - Rom. 1:24-32 -
You know perfectly well that people who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God: people of immoral lives, idolaters,adulterers, catamites, sodomites, thieves, usurers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers will never inherit the kingdom of God. - 1Cor. 6:9-10 -
In particularly, I want to urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, not to go on living the aimless kind of life that pagans live. Intellectually they are in the dark, and they are estranged from the life of God, without knowledge because they have shut their hearts to it. Their sense of right and wrong once dulled, they have abandoned themselves to sexuality and eagerly pursue a career of indecency of every kind. Now that is hardly the way you have learnt from Christ, unless you failed to hear him properly when you were taught what the truth is in Jesus. You must give up your old way of life; you must put aside your old self, which gets corrupted by following illusory desires. Your mind must be renewed by a spiritual revolution so that you can put on the new self that has been created in God's way, in the goodness and holiness of the truth. - Eph. 4:18-24 -

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!
