Adultery plays havoc with personal, domestic and national happiness, ruins family life and destroy family integration. A case in point is king David's affair with Bathsheba. Their adultery led to a cover-up which was followed by the murder of Bathsheba's husband. - 2Sam. chapter 11 - Nathan the prophet later came to David, accusing of his sin and declaring that because of it, violence would become commonplace in David's household. - 2Sam. 12:10 - On disaster after another struck his family, including rape, murder and revolt. - 2Sam. chapter 13 to 15 -
Adultery reached epidemic proportions in Jeremiah's [the prophet] time. The prophet Jeremiah repeatedly spoke out against this and other sins. - Jer. 7:9; 23:10 - The problem was so rampant that Jeremiah predicted God's judgement on them.
But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen horrors:
adultery, persistent lying,
such abetting of evil men, that no one renounces his evil-doing;
to me they are like Sodom
its inhabitants all like Gomorrah.
So this is what Yahweh Sabaoth says about the prophets:
and poisoned water to drink,
since from the prophets of Jerusalem
godlessness has spread throughout the land. - Jer. 23:14-15 -
Occasionally, the marriage covenant was used as an analogy to describe God's relationship to His people. When the people of Israel and Judah refused to obey Him or when they practiced idolatry, the true prophets accused them of spiritual adultery. - Jer. 3:6-10 -
The record of the woman taken in adultery-who, according to the law of Moses, should have been stoned to death-reveals the wisdom and grace of Jesus. He knew that her accusers were not without sin and therefore, they were being self-righteous when they condemned her. When Jesus said to her, "Go and sin no more" He did not excuse her sin; he forgive her of it and warned against continuing in adultery. - John 8:3-11 -
Saint Paul catalogued a series of sins that exclude a person from the kingdom of God. The sin of adultery was included in these list.
You know perfectly well that people who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God: people of immoral lives, idolaters, adulterers, catamites, sodomites, thieves, usurers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers will never inherit the kingdom of God. - 1Cor. 6:9-10 -
In other words, since they refused to see it was rational to acknowledge God. God has left them to their own irrational ideas and to their monstrous behaviour. And so they are steeped in all sorts of depravity, rottenness, greed and malice, and addicted to envy, murder, wrangling, treachery and spite. Libellers, slanderers, enemies of God, rude, arrogant and boastful, enterprising in sin, rebellious to parents, without brains, without honour, without love and without pity. They know what God's verdict is: that those who behave like this deserve to die - and yet they do it; and what is worse, encourage others to do the same. - Rom. 1:28-32 -
Try, then, to imitate God, as children of his that he loves and follow Christ by loving as he loved you, giving himself up in our place as a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God. Among you there must not even a mention of fornication or impurity in any of its forms or promiscuity: this would hardly become the saints!
There must be no coarseness, or salacious talk and jokes - all this is wrong for you; raise your voices in thanksgiving instead. For you can be quite certain that nobody who actually indulges in fornication or impurity or promiscuity - which is worshipping a false god - can inherit anything of the kingdom of God. Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is for this loose living that God's anger comes down on those who rebel against him. Make sure that you are not included with them. You were darkness once but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light, for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and right living and truth. Try to discover what the Lord wants of you, having nothing to do with the futile works of darkness but exposing them by contrast. The things which are done in secret are things that people are ashamed even to speak of; but anything exposed by the light will be illuminated and anything illuminated turns into light. That is why it is said:
Wake up from your sleep,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you. - Eph. 5:1-14 -

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!
I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.
HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -
