In the Sacred Scripture/Holy Bible: Sanctuary is a holy place set apart for worship of God or refuge from danger. The way we can understands the word, has at least seven different meanings.

( 1 ) - Israel's earliest sanctuary was the portable tent known as the TABERNACLE, where the ARK OF THE COVENANT containing the Ten Commandments was housed.

Build me a sanctuary so that I may dwell among them. - Ex. 25:8, 36:1 -

After the conquest of the land of Canaan by Joshua, the tabernacle with its sanctuary was placed at Shiloh, a town in central Palestine. - Josh. 18:1 -

( 2 ) - When David became king he planned the TEMPLE in Jerusalem and it was eventually built by his son, Solomon. This became a more permanent place of worship.

So now devote heart and soul to the search for Yahweh your God. Set to and build the sanctuary of Yahweh your God, so that you can bring the ark of the Covenant of Yahweh and the holy things of God to the house that is built for the name of Yahweh. - 1Chr. 22:19 -

( 3 ) - The prophets refer to the heathen sanctuaries, where pagan gods were worshiped.

           In vain may Moab go
to wear himself out at high places,
           to come and pray in his temple;
           he can do nothing. - Isaiah 16: 12 -

( 4 ) - The word sanctuary is applied also to the most holy place or the Holy of Holies, in the tabernacle and the Temple.

Then the anointed priest must take a little of the blood of the bull and take it into the Tent of Meeting. He shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it over the veil of the sanctuary seven times, before Yahweh. - Lev. 3:5-6 -

( 5 ) -  The word sanctuary is also used of God's holy habitation in heaven.

Yahweh has leaned down from the heights of his sanctuary,
has looked down at earth from heaven. - Psalms 102:19 -

( 6 ) - In the Gospel of John, the Lord Jesus Christ is speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, the Universal Church. And in the epistle to the Colossians, Saint Paul affirmed it.

The Jews intervened and said, 'What sign can you show us to justify what you have done?' Jesus answered, 'Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.' The Jews replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this sanctuary: are you going to raise it up in three days?' But he was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the words he had said." - John 2:19-22 -

Now the Church is his body, he is its head. - Col. 1:18 -

( 7 ) - In the New Jerusalem there will be no sanctuary, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. Where all is made sacred, consecrated, and holy by God's presence, there is no need for one specific holy place.

I saw that there was no temple in the city since the Lord God Almighty were themselves the temple, and the city did not need the sun or the moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God and the Lamb was a lighted torch for it. - Rev. 21:22-23 -

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!

I STILL HAVE MANY THINGS TO SAY TO YOU BUT THEY WOULD BE TOO MUCH FOR YOU NOW. BUT WHEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH COMES, HE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE COMPLETE TRUTH, SINCE HE WILL NOT BE SPEAKING AS FROM HIMSELF, BUT WILL SAY ONLY WHAT HE HAS LEARNT; AND HE WILL TELL YOU OF THE THINGS TO COME.

HE WILL GLORIFY ME, SINCE ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. EVERYTHING THE FATHER HAS IS MINE; THAT IS WHY I SAID: ALL HE TELLS YOU WILL BE TAKEN FROM WHAT IS MINE. - JOHN 16:12-15 -

God bestows more consideration on the purity of intention with which our actions are performed than on the actions themselves - Saint August...
