2) Jesus was a liar.

OK, so maybe the apostles told what they believed to be true. Isn't it still possible that Jesus was the deceiver here? Maybe He was just a clever huckster bent on selling Himself to the crowd for the usual reasons of power and money.

Problem is, Jesus does not do the things that a deceiver or opportunist would do. He flees into the desert when people try to make Him king. - John 6:15 - Then He makes speeches - John 6:25-60 - that guaranteed to offend all but the most die-hard grassroots supporters. He repeatedly conceals His miracles. Mark 5:43; 7:36; Luke 5:14 -

He hobnobs with thieves, drunkards, and lepers. He surrounds Himself with tacky people who would look terrible in campaign brochures. He looks past the president of the Capernaum Chamber of Commerce and without excusing Himself, extends a cheery "Hello!" to a local prostitute who just crashed the exclusive cocktail party without an invitation. - Luke 7:36-50 -

That's not the way to win political favour. Nor does it make sense to take particular pains to make sure that those Roman and Jewish leaders who thought the least of Him - and had the power to do something about it - would find plenty of reasons (and opportunities) to see Him dead.

Such political "blunders" characterized His entire career. He regularly alienated the most powerful men of His day, both Jewish and Roman:

Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" "I am," said Jesus - Mark 14:61-62 -

And Pilate asked Him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
And [Jesus] answered him, "You have said so" - Mark 15:2 -

He was not a man to quibble about what the meaning of "if" is. Instead, when He was on trail for His life, He twice said the very thing that would absolutely ensure He suffered an ignominious and horrible death. If He was after worldly power, He had a strange way of showing it.

I have through years of reading, pondering, reflecting and contemplating, the 3 things that last; FAITH . HOPE . LOVE and I would like to made available my sharing from the many thinkers, authors, scholars and theologians whose ideas and thoughts I have borrowed. God be with them always. Amen!
